His wife's name is given in two censuses as "Barbary" and "Maybill"; my guess is that both names refer to the same person. Her maiden name is unknown, but one of their children was named King G. COOK and my recollection (I don't have the records handy at the moment) is that I found some sort of land transaction between this family and someone with the surname of KING. So I suspect this may have been her maiden name. That's all I know so far. - Rich Holmes

    1. Re: [NYMADISO] Look up offer for new members
    2. Dear Sharon: I am not a new member of this list, but I don't think I have asked you--or anyone--the question below before so I hope you will consider answering it. Do your Early Marriages of Central NY newspapers books have the marriage of Lewis Davi(e)s and Winifred or Gwen Jones? They were married in April 1871, probably in Otsego Co, NY, according to family information, but I have not found a record for them. Thanks very much. Otherwise I am sure I have already done lookups for the old members in the past. I have three books of newspaper abstracts for Madison Co. area. By no means do they cover all the multitude of newspapers during the 1800's. There are no entries beyond the 1880's so take that into consideration. I also have Early Marriages of Central NY newspaper abstracts which contain some from Madison Co. Also a book on Spafford, Onondaga Co., NY Mortuary and genealogy records. I have seen several Madison Co. families that migrated there. So if your family was one of those I will also check that out for you. 3. Hi Maybelle, I'm not clear which site you are having the problem with but I think you mean ancestry.com. Basically to log into any website, you need to know the address like www.ancestry.com. They also host www.rootsweb.ancestry.com, which is free and consists of hundreds of mailing lists like this one, plus message boards, and lots of other resources. If either of those is the one you are having a problem with, just click on the link above and after it opens add it to your "Favorites" list on your browser. If the link doesn't work, you can type or copy and paste it into your browser. Once you have the site open, look at the menu bar across the top of the page and point to the word "Collaborate". Another little menu will pop down and you probably want to go to "Member Directory" to search for the person you want to contact. Then you can try to contact them. I got a reply last month from someone that I posted a message to four years ago. They just recently logged back in and saw my old message. So don't give up. If you subscribe to the paid features of ancestry.com and are having a problem getting logged in after you open it, here's what to do. When it opens to the "homepage", you need to log in with your User name and Password. The place to do that is on the top right side of the page. There are two little windows labeled "Username" and "Password" to put that information in. Once you are logged in, you will be able to see the original records found in your searches of the databases. If this isn't answering your question, give me a little more information about what isn't working. George Washington loved it and made it at Mt. Vernon. Freezing the cider concentrates the alcohol content of the cider by removing some of the water. And bingo - it's brandy. 2. I am looking for an obit for a Hepsibah Eaton Taintor/Tainter who probably died in the later 1800's. She was the wife of Rev. Samuel Tainter who died in Oneida County. Hepsibahor Hepzebah lived the remainder of her live in Madison County with a daughter named Lucinda. They may have been dressmakers in Oneida. A cousinof my husbands at one time found some information in some court records that mentioned a John Jefferson Tainter as requesting some money from her small estate and receiving it. He was a hearing and speech impaired person as was his wife Mary Ann. (She was born in Germany or Switzerland. I have the available information on John and Mary Ann from various Census that are on Ancestry.com. So really looking for some obituary, marriage announcement or something of that nature. Thank you Dodie

    1. Re: [NYMADISO] George Nash and judson Beebe Judson Beebe and Emogine Hills Blanding
    2. Tink Miller
    3. Hi Joan, I did a little scanning through census records. Here's some bits and pieces of data that I think are compelling : George Nash is elusive to say the least. Without more info, it would be impossible to say for certain which one on the census records is the right one. Two thoughts crossed my mind: the newspaper blurb gives no info about him. So either he is local and well-known, or he is famous in some way and well-known. A search of the 1880 census did not reveal a George Nash in Madison Co., but 1870 provided one listing, corroborated by the 1900 census: 1870 census: Hamilton, Madison Co., NY, pg 67 of 93, taken July 2nd. Residence 549, lines 11 - 17. (really bad handwriting!) NASH, George E., 31, dry goods merchant; value of realty $1000, value of person property $4000. born NY Henretta, 29, keeping house, born NY Fred, 8, born NY, in school Nettie, 5, born NY Wallis/Walter?, 3, born NY PACK/PRATT?, Otto M, 19, clerk born NY LARKINS, Mandona?, White female, 32, domestic servant, born NY. 1900 census: Hamilton, Madison Co., NY, pg 4 of 24, taken June 5th. 12th enum dist. Residence 43, lines 69 - 74. NASH, George E., 61, born Aug 1838, married 39 yrs.; general merchant; can read & write and speak English. He and parents born NY. Owns home free and clear, not a farm. Henretta, 59, born Dec 1840, wife, has had 7 children/6 are living; keeping house, she and parents born NY. Gertrude L., 29, born Mar 1871, daughter, single, born NY, music teacher, can read & write and speak English. George E. Jr., son, 19, born Sept 1880. single, at school. born NY. Henretta, 15, daughter, born Dec. 1884 single, at school. born NY. O'HARA, Bridget, 55, servant dob unknown, widow. She and parents born in Ireland, immigrated to US in 1852. Cannot read or write. Speaks English. Regarding Susan Blanding Beebe. She was daughter of Frank and Nancy Holbrook Blanding and appears to have been an only child. Judson's sister Lucina married a Blanding. Didn't find other sisters and didn't trace whether Lucina remarried at some point. Maybe if you know the names of other sisters, you can trace them. Perhaps one of Emogene's sisters (Ann and Maria) married a Nash, or a brother married a woman who already had a son with surname Nash (making Judson Step-Uncle), or perhaps Judson was a Great Uncle to Nathan but was addressed as Uncle. We called all the Uncles of any generation "Uncle" - eg. Grandma's Uncles, Grandpa's Uncles, Dad's and Mother's Uncles, and our own Uncles - all that were living were called Uncle. According to the dates in those two news articles, Emogene was born about 1848 and died in 1902. However, it is stated in the 1900 US Census (listed below) that she was born in April 1845. I do believe that she is the daughter of Asah Hills and that her name is actually Frances Emogene Hills. On the 1850 census, the name Emogene does not appear in the Asah Hills family. However, among the children there is a son named Lymon H. Hills and a daughter named Maria L. Hills, which matches Emogene's surviving siblings as listed in the obit. There also is a child age 5 listed who is named Frances E. Hills. That makes her birth year 1845, which is significant when matched with later census data. When I looked at the subsequent census data, which matches indisputably to the right Emogene, the age listed on each census equates to birth in 1845, again matching the age of Frances E Hills. I think that Frances E. is Emogene and she went by her middle name, which was a common practice. Here's the trail: 1850 census: Brookfield, Madison Co., NY, pg 48 of 86; taken 5 Aug 1850 - lines 1 - 9, res 687 HILLS, Asah H., 59, farmer, value of realty $4000. Born Vermont. Louisa, 45, born Massachusetts. Ann M., 18 Albert I., 15, in school Lymon H., 13, in school Darwin, 11, in school Maria L., 9, in school Frances E., 5, in school Franklin, (says "E" in age column, which appears to be his middle initial), in school. (May have been a twin to Frances; see 1860 data.) All children born in NY. 1860 census: Brookfield, Madison Co., NY, pg 75 of 94; taken 20 July 1860 - lines 2 - 7, res 633 HILLS, Asah H., 59, farmer, value of realty $4000. Born Vermont. (Parents birthplaces not quite matching to Asah & Louisa, but the information may have been supplied by someone else.) You can see how Emogene came in contact with each of her future husbands. They all lived close together - Beebe's, Blandings and Mason's. Hope that gives you something to work on. Maybe you can find more entries about George Nash in the newspapers to corroborate the connection. There's a good probability that the dry goods merchant is the right one. Maybe someone on the list recalls their parents or grand's talking about Nash's store? 3. I don't know. All I found in the paper was what I put in my e-mail. Sorry I don't have more. You might want to check for yourself to see. Just go to Fultonhistory.com and you should come to a site for old postcards and news papers. To open it press on the word enter. If you can't get into it let me know and I will try to send the link to you. It has a world of information. 3. Joan, is this Phebe the sister of Louisa Crandall Clarke? Sue in Ohio -----Original Message----- From: nymadiso-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nymadiso-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joan Meddaugh Sent: Saturday, October 31, 2009 8:04 AM To: nymadiso@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYMADISO] phebe crandell cyrus beebe hi list, Its me again. I have another question about another Cyrus. This time it is a Cyrus Beebe age 79 who married a Phebe Crandall age 75 in Brookfield. I have no date of marriage. Questions: 1.Is the Phebe that married this Cyrus Beebe the sister of Rhody Chesebro Cyrus's first wife who died in 1875? if it is I thought she was a widow of a Mr. Palmer. 2. If that is not the answer then is it possible that this Cyrus Beebe is the son of Cyrus and Rhody and that his first wife Maria died and he married a Phebe Crandall as his second wife? ____________________________________________________ Found in the same paper this article regarding a Cyrus Beebe. There will be the usual number of changes in our little village this spring. D. Smith Marsh will move from the Blanding farm to his own home in the village. ( Some of this is hard to read but will do the best I can in translating it.) The next letter looks like either an "E" or an 8. The the next word is Weeks from the Cyrus Mason place to the farm which will be vacated by Mr. marsh. Cyrus Mason has rented his place to Allen Marsh. Mr. Mason has returned from East Hamilton where he has been visiting his uncle, Cyrus Beebe and is now the guest of J. F. Garrett and Family. Question: Could this Cyrus Beebe be the brother of Judson. If that is right then at that time Judson would have been married to Emogene Hills Blanding and the year would have been about 1892 as Judson died in April of 1892 and he and Emogene had only been married a few months according to Judson's obit. Sure would appreciates your thought on this. I found this info through Fultonhistory.com it is a wonderful site and I have learned a lot about my relatives in Brookfield and elsewhere.
