    3. Buried in the Lebanon Village cemetery are Amos and Betsey Geer.  I am in search of their marriage record and the origin of Betsey.  Anyone on the list know about them?  I do know they didn't live there for long -- Amos and Betsey were in Georgetown in 1860 and Amos was in Lebanon (?with a son's family?) in 1870.  The family had previously lived in Oneida County.  I've searched both counties and elsewhere, but no luck.  Any info would be welcomed.  Thanks.

    3. From some old genealogy notes I was recently given. I have more information on the Keene family mentioned, also there is a picture of Hannah if anyone is interested in a scan. The Oneida Dispatch, Friday, Nov. 12, 1915 Mrs. John W. Maine. Death of the First White Woman born in Oneida. Clockville, Nov. 11 - Hannah Morris Maine, the beloved wife of John W. Maine, entered into rest on the beautiful Sabbath morning of Nov. 7 at 11:30 at the family home in Clockville. She was the oldest daughter of John and Nancy Adle Morris and was the first white girl born in the village (now city) of Oneida, being 76 years and ten days old at the time of her death. Dec. 11, 1865, she was united in marriage with John W. Maine so that they had passed nearly sixty years of maried life together. Death was due to kidney and heart trouble, causing great suffering which was borne with Christian fortitude. Deceased was a member of the Clockville church, a devoted wife and mother, and will be missed by a wide circle of friends. Besides her husband she is survived by five children, Avery M., Mrs. F. A. Miller and Prescott D., of Clockville; Mrs. J. C. Harrington of Syracuse and Mrs. F. A. Keene of Oneida Castle; also one sister, Mrs. James Cramer of Utica. Funeral services were held from the family home at 2 p. m. on Wednesday, Rev. Wallace E. Brown, D.D., of Syracuse officiating, and burial was made in the family plot in Clockville cemetery. Beautiful floral tributes were mute tokens of [lov]e for the departed one.

    1. [NYMADISO] Nathan Peck
    2. Mary Hunt
    3. For years, I have been stuck on a man who married two sisters in my family.  His name was Nathan Peck, and he married Phebe Tompkins in 1826 in Madison, and then after she died in 1832, he married her younger sister, Mary Tompkins in 1839 in Hamilton.  My problem is finding his parents, birthdate and birth location.  I finally got what seems like a reasonable lead, when I learned that he named his and Mary's youngest son, born in 1854, Joseph B. Peck, and then found that there was a Joseph B. Peck in the Town of Nelson in all censuses between 1810 - 1850.  My theory is that the elder Joseph B. Peck died in the early 1850s and his son Nathan named his next child after his father.  I'm hopeful that the Joseph B. Peck who lived in Nelson is connected to someone on this list who could verify for me whether (or not) he had a son named Nathan who married two of the Tompkins girls.  Or, barring that good luck, I'm hoping that someone on this list will at least be able to point me in the direction of some good resources on the Peck family of Madison County, since I haven't really been able to find much on them in my research.  Any takers?  Your input would be most appreciated.  Mary Mary Hunt E-mail:   muvsgenealogy@comcast.net

    3. Hi Pat and others who have responded: Thanks for your suggestions. Dorothy B. has helped me to find some specific descendants of the person I'm interested in and I'm hoping they will reply to me. But I guess I should have been more clear, in the beginning, on what I was looking for. Since it DOES actually have a connection to Madison County, I guess I can go into a little more detail here. The situation is this: In March 1871, the Madison County Home for Destitute Children opened in Peterboro. The first child to be recorded in the records of the Home was John F. Henry (b. 1859 NYS); he was one of 14 children brought from the Poor House in Eaton. On July 20, the Peterboro museum is having a program on the history of the Home. Because John Henry was the first child admitted, I would like to invite his descendants to attend. ESPECIALLY, I would like to obtain a picture of him. Of course, I'd like to invite descendants of ANY children who were in the Home, but I know the most about John and don't have time to research all the others. From research that I did do on my own, I know that John Henry graduated from the Univ. of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1895. Following this he was a lawyer and county judge in Ramsey Co., North Dakota (1900 census, Devil's Lake, Ramsey Co., ND). He was still in ND in 1910 but by 1920 he was living in Ilion, Herkimer Co., NY, where he spent 17 yrs. as an Internal Revenue agent. He died in 1943 and is buried at the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. I have a copy of his obit. from FultonHistory.com Since I've found out quite a bit about his 2 wives, children, and descendants, I think my main goal now is to get a PICTURE of him. I sent a query to the North Dakota State Historical Society (no reply yet) asking about Ramsey County history, contacts, etc. I also thought perhaps I should contact Herkimer Co. Historical Society, but was waiting to possibly hear from John's descendants before I spend $ in Herkimer Co. Sorry for the length of this post. 3. Hi Donna You did not state what year or years you are seeking records for in North Dakota. I assume you are seeking info on a former Madison County family who migrated to North Dakota. No Dakotat was first formed in 3/1861 as part of the Territory of Dakota and in 11/1889 divided into North and South Dakota. Prior to that time there was very little white settlement in the area and prior to 1861 it was inclued in part of Minnesota and Nebraska Territories. I was looking for info on an Ancestor who personal handwritten records indicated they were in Minnesota, but they actually settled in what was later the Dakota Territory in the 1850's (prior to its being a Territory) after migrated westward from Canada and NYS. It was difficult to research them and the information I got was limited. However I did obtain info later on their decendants ( the early info being church records). I also sent several Snail Mail letters to various church archives and received some helpful information and burials. You also might want to contact the State Historical Society as they have Early Newspapers on Microfilm that you can obtain through the interlibrary loan. I got some information (not a lot) but it was well worth the investment. A couple years ago I requested Vitals from North Dakota and had to prove my identity in order to obtain them. I believe I sent a copy of my Drivers License for both a Birth Cert. and several Death Cert.. They were not certified and I was obtaining them on my G Grandparents and it was all I ws allowed.. The cost was reasonable.. I also obtained some Land Record information by going over Microfilms that I ordered through the LDS (Mormon) Center near me. One of these days I have to get back into my N Dakota line and do some in depth research myself.. Good Luck Pat R

    3. Hi Mike Have you contacted the Church to see if they have any Church records available? If you have a great deal of requests for your family you might want to send a Snail Mail letter and give them ample time to lookup the informtion and reply (as normally work is done by volunteers). I personally over many years of research have found old church records to be very helpful in finding the people I am looking for and also locating other family members and ties. It has proved to be one of the most helpfu resourses available.l Some church records will give you the Date of Baptism but in other records one can find both the DOB and Baptism dates. Further research will often show M records and/or D records for your Ancestor. Or perhaps they can tell you if the Madison County Historical Society might have the early records. Chittenango Station Free Methodist Church Chittenango, NY 13037 <http://www.getfave.com/locations/ny/z/13037> (315) 687-6230 Madison County Historical Society 435 Main Street Oneida, NY 13421 Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. You might also want to contact the Town or Village Clerk to see if there is a Burial Permit available. I would suggest giving them a DOD or at least an approx. DOD and request the cost of your inquiry at the onset. You can also ask the Historical Society if they have Microfilms of Newspapers that include Vitals for the area. If not you can always order at your Main Library (where you live) Microfilms of these early Newspaper from the New York State Newspaper Project. That URL is : http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/nygcty.htm Remember there are some newspaper sites online but they are only gleanings of what is available and many of these other newspaper articles have not been put online and probably will not be for a number of years. 3. For what it is worth, my luck with churches has been almost non existent with regard to a search for my father's baptismal record. Occasionally, one gets a reply of "nothing to report" but most of the time, it is a non reply one gets. In my most recent attempt in looking for my father's record, Heinrich Köpke or Henry Kapke, I wrote to a church near Alexander street in Albany where they lived according to the Albany directory. My search in city directories for the family between 1885 and 1890, after many years of searching, found the family in a directory for Albany dated, 1886 and 1887 under the wrong spelling of Kop he. I haven't been able to find him again until 1889 in a Madison Directory under Kophe. I still haven 't found the family in 1888, the year he was born. In Madison, the address was recorded on 42 Sherman Street. I have been unsuccessful in finding what church would have been near that address at that time. The one church I have been given, didn't start until long after his birth. Over the years, I have written to the church in Hartford Ct. where they attended, and never got an answer. I wrote to the Missouri Synod, no answer. I am convinced that he is there somewhere, but that it is under a misspelling. If you can't get an answer, you are not going to get the information. My work with churches has been very consistent. Nothing. 3. Hello, I'm trying find where records from this church may have gone. From Sullivan In History there is a reference to The Free Methodist Church of Chittenango Station. It was organized in 1869. I'm looking for information regarding the WATKINS that were apart of the "Plank Road Class." Thank you in advance for any information that you may have! 2. Also check the Social Security Death Index (SSDI). It can be very helpful. -- Jim R In a message dated 1/17/2010 1:16:01 P.M. The only Tanner listed was a Charles H. Tanner 80 at the Harding Nursing Home. If you wish to search back just go to the above website and you can search several more years obituaries for Donne.
