They can also be put on a CD and given that way. I used both methods in Jordan NY with Church records they have. Anything that saves wear and tear on the original books. I would put some contact information with documents for anything you give the M.C.H.S. Rick Porter Finger Lakes House Histories

    1. [NYMADISO] Join Find a Grave: It's free!
    2. Donnelly
    3. Hi, Once again I would like to encourage those doing genealogy to check out the Find a Grave site at http://www.findagrave.com <http://www.findagrave.com/> . It is often possible to find out more about an individual there than at a family genealogy site. Often there are photos of the individual and his/her grave. There are also family links to an individual's parents, spouse, and children. You may find ancestors there you have not been able to find anywhere else. Using the site is free. You can add any relatives and ancestors not already there. It's free and easy to use. Copy and paste this link to my great-great-great-great-grandfather David Strickland to get an idea of just how much information you can add, all for free: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr <http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSsr=81&GSmid=19199118&GRi d=32748382> &GSsr=81&GSmid=19199118&GRid=32748382& Thanks, Sharlotte

    1. [NYMADISO] John Dardis Donnelly's descendents from NY (Donnelly/Dietz/Barrett/Heintz/Costigan/Meiners)
    2. Donnelly
    3. Hi, I would love to connect with some of the descendents of: John Dardis Donnelly (husband of Catherine Costigan Donnelly), his brother Thomas James Donnelly (husband of Cecilia Meiners Donnelly), and/or their sisters, Helen Donnelly Dietz, Mary Donnelly Barrett, and Dorothy Donnelly Heintz. They were the children of Thomas John Donnelly (1849-1928) and Nora Heffernan Donnelly (1861-1958) of Madison County, New York. I would love to know anything more about the Donnelly family. The big question I want answered, however, is from where in Ireland did the ancestors of Thomas John Donnelly come? (His father Michael Donnelly came from Ireland to New Jersey.) We know the Heffernans came from Tipperary in Ireland to New York. Thanks, Sharlotte Donnelly donnelly@one.net http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly/

    1. [NYMADISO] Mystery of the Donnelly family
    2. Donnelly
    3. Hi, I am trying to track down my husband's Donnelly ancestors in Ireland and solve our Donnelly family mystery. I have heard that most Donnellys in Ireland are from Counties Tyrone and Donegal. (Are there other heavily-Donnelly areas?) So, I am hoping someone in Ireland may have information on our Donnellys. My husband's direct male line goes back to Michael Donnelly (about 1822-1850) who immigrated from Ireland to Newark, Essex County, New Jersey in the USA. I would love to know from where in Ireland he comes and who his parents were. In 1849 he and Honora ("Nora") Winn Donnelly Williams (about 1827-after 1880) (the daughter of William Winn), also from somewhere in Ireland, had a son, Thomas John Donnelly (1849-1928), who was christened at Saint John Roman Catholic Church in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. A year after the birth of their baby, in 1850, Michael Donnelly, died of dysentery at age 28. Michael Donnelly was buried at Saint John Roman Catholic Church in Newark. His remains and the remains of other poor Irish immigrants were later moved to nearby Saint Michael and ultimately to Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, Bergen County, New Jersey where they lie under a large Celtic cross that marks the spot where those buried at Old Saint John Roman Catholic Church in Newark between 1835 and 1910 were re-buried at Holy Cross in 1960. Somehow Michael's son Thomas became the foster son of farmers John and Mary Dardis from Ireland (I do not know where), in Jennings County, Indiana. After 1870 widower John Dardis and his foster son Thomas Donnelly joined the rest of the Dardis family in Madison County, New York. Thomas pursued a career as a train conductor. Two years after Michael's death, in 1852, Thomas' mother Nora married Elisha Williams at Saint John Roman Catholic Church in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. Their children included Elizabeth, Terrance, and Honora Williams, and maybe others. Where is Nora buried? Michael and Nora's son Thomas John Donnelly married Honora ("Nora") Heffernan Donnelly (1861-1958) in 1881 in Cazenovia, Madison County, New York. She was the youngest child of Irish immigrants Thomas Heffernan (1815-1864) and Ellen Dugan Heffernan (1817-1898) from Rossmore and Holy Cross in County Tipperary in Ireland. I would appreciate any information on the Donnellys or even suggestions as to how to pursue further information. Thanks, Sharlotte Neely Donnelly donnelly@one.net http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly/

    3. I should have been more informative when I first write about these Bibles. My apologies to all. These are all small versions of the Bible, Prayer Book, Psalms, and New Testaments. They range in size from about 2 1/2" x 3 1/2 to 6" x 3 1/2. Printed from 1808 to 1867 Any inscriptions were names of the presenter or the receiver. These are the names that are in the books that I could decipher LINN MOSS - EATON, NY DEC 25, 1905 , JOHN MOSS, MORSE - BROOKFIELD JAN 9, 1911 - CHLOE WOODARD MARY E. MOORS, MORSE - DIED MAY 31,1876 AGED 41 YEARS - "A PRESENT TO MARY FROM HER SISTER ELIZABETH A. MATHER - DIED DEC 1, 1894, AGE 65-10M-5D" PRESENTED TO GEORGE MORSE - 12 YEARS - BY HIS SABOTH SCHOOL TEACHER - MAY 30TH SUPERINTENDENT, S.J. PIERSON As I stated before any one wishing to receive these books let me know. I'm looking forward to finding them a home. There a couple little items tucked inside a couple of them. One being the obit memorial card for William Bayliss who died in Stonefield, NY Hope I clarified things better for you. Pat

    1. Re: [NYMADISO] Bibles
    2. Pat - I believe the bibles you speak of may belong to my husbands family. His 5xgreat grandfather was Levi Brown an early settler in the town of Nelson/town of Eaton. Levi and his wife Joanna had 18 living children. One of those children was Matilda Brown who was born in Oct 1795. Matilda married Abner Morse. Matilda and Abner had 11 children. One of those children was George Brown who was born in 1817. George married Minerva Mann. They were living in Cazenovia in 1880 and had a son by the name of George. I could go on but if you do think any of the above mentioned George Morses might be a connection I would love to have the bibles unless you hear from another descendant with a more direct line. It pleases me to let my grandchildren know that there are 9 generations of their relatives that lived in Erieville. Not all were born here, but probably a few generations were born and died and were buried in our little cemetery here. some of them think it's kind of cool to go over and check out the relatives. Sincerely Dorothy

    3. *I thought I would send this along. The Morse you mention may be from the same family mentioned here. * * * *By Mary Messere “Backstreet Mary”* (Eaton – Jan. 11, 2010) Last night the historic Stone House of Joseph Morse burned in Eaton. I am told that it is a big loss. This is a terrible tragedy for the people of Eaton and a great loss to the history of Madison County. Though I am not in Eaton I feel the loss for the Morse family the members of which are good friends of mine. The museum in Eaton has many of the early belongings of the Morse family, which is a blessing in a way. No name is considered more important or well known in the history of the Town and Hamlet of Eaton than the name Morse. The Morse family from Sherburne, Massachusetts, came to the area between 1793 and 1796 after the first patents were issue for the land. First to come was Benjamin Morse and his wife Debra Swain. A Revolutionary War militiaman, he and Joshua Leland came together hoping to make a place for their families. Second came brother Hezekiah Morse followed later by younger brother Joseph Morse. Joshua Leland and Joseph Morse would become the people referred to as founders of Eaton. Originally, Joseph Morse settled with his brothers on the east side of the hill near the Town of Hamilton where he was an early justice. He then decided to purchase property on the west side of the hill along the swift running waters of the Alderbrook, today called the Eatonbrook. Joseph and his industrious sons built ponds and dams to accommodate all forms of mills the first of which were saw mills and grist mills need for building and feed. Joseph also started a distillery, later owned by Ellis, which brought in much needed cash; a distillery that used more grain by the late 1830’s than was grown by mechanical means in all of Madison County in 1878. This distillery shipped most of its goods to New York City via the Chenango Canal. The family encouraged travelers to come through town that now sported taverns and hotels, one of which was owned by the Morse family, the Exchange Hotel. Joseph’s son Bigelow moved out to Fabius on the Hamilton Skaneateles Turnpike and started a foundry. Son Alpheus owned the Eaton Woolen Mill, and Calvin Morse became a businessman and the New York State Assemblyman. Many of the Morse men served as Town of Eaton supervisors, school board members and church leaders. *Mary Messere served Eaton as its historian.* On Thu, Jul 8, 2010 at 3:04 PM, Patricia Jaquay <hjaquay@twcny.rr.com>wrote: > Sorry Barb - the name appears to be S.
