    3. I have a CD from Americasarchive.com of the 1890 census from Oswego County, and it is all military.  Have not found John Hall yet but that does not mean he isn't in there.  Footnote does not have the 26th Regt. on their pages yet--they have from 22-25 on line.  Dorothy ________________________________ From: Donna Burdick <dburdick@stny.rr.com> To: nymadiso@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, August 3, 2010 8:12:18 AM Subject: Re: [NYMADISO] 1890 Census Herma Thanks.  I suspect that the John Hall you found was white but this could be wrong.  Am thinking that the 101st NY Infantry was a white regiment. However, there were 2 black soldiers from Peterboro in the 22nd NY Cavalry, so I guess I should never say never. I'll keep this information just in case. 2. The John Hall (1842 - 1909) with the gunshot wound in his wrist is white. He was the son of William Hall and Clarissa Foster, married to Mary Elizabeth Knowles on January 9, 1860. I have his Civil War pension records if anyone is interested. Dianne

    3. Does anyone know if the 1890 Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, Widows, etc. Census has been made available, such as on Ancestry? A number of yrs. ago, I went to the Steele Memorial Library in Elmira, NY, where I found this census on microfilm - at least for NYS. I transcribed all the entries for the Town of Smithfield. Now I'd like to find out if a man named JOHN HALL is listed in the Town of Fenner or possibly elsewhere in Madison County. The particular man I'm interested in was an African American and a member of the 26th Regt. United States Colored Troops, He died on Sept. 26, 1890 and is buried at Peterboro. There is no age on his stone. Donna Burdick Smithfield Town Historian

    3. Thank you for the reply! That record is a bit of a problem, and in actuality, isn't very clear. A few years ago I had a go around with the library in Oneida, and they couldn't locate it. When I sent him a copy of the ancestry record, he eventually found the record filed in another area. It was printed by the Globe company. The one for 1890 was by the Dillon company, and he was unable to find that one. The info on the globe issue was collected in 1886, and the one for the Dillon company was collected in 1889. All I can say for sure is that since my father was born in 1888, and his mother could have been left in Albany while daddy worked in Oneida, and my dad was born in Albany (which he always thought) or she moved to Oneida with her daughter, and he was born in Oneida. Someone, I think from this list found them by Albany using a wild card search under the spelling of Kophe in an 1886 Albany directory. Henry Sr.'s papers of intent (citizenship) were taken out in Albany too in September of 1886. I still can't be perfectly sure where Mama was in 1888! Where ever she was, he was. In Albany, they lived on Alexander street. I wrote to the nearest Lutheran church there, and they couldn't find a record, but referred me to another Lutheran church nearby. They never answered my letter. I haven't asked Albany records to check under the Kophe spelling yet, I was still hoping to find some indication that they were actually living in Oneida. The Dillon directory was not available when I wrote to the library, at least they said they couldn't find it. I would like to narrow it further before trying to bore in. I have been searching for this since before 1960, and I am closer that I have ever been. Certainly, I am far closer than my mother ever was able to get, but no cigar. Henry Sr. was a cigar maker! I just don't buy that they never registered the birth of their son especially with what I have since found out about the family. They have been registered in Jork Germany going back to the 1300's. It doesn't fit. 3. I wasn't aware that ANY records from 1890 census have survived. Am I wrong? I would dearly like to know if my grandfather Henry P. W. Köpke or Kapke, was still in Oneida at that time. I have been able to track him down in Albany 1886, Oneida 1889, then I lose him until 1900 in New Haven. From when I pick him up in New Haven, I can trace him until he died in 1917. I believe that at sometime during those ten years, they moved to NYC. I haven't found him there either. If I could be sure where he lived in 1888, I might be able to verify the birth place of my father. At this time I can only guess it is either Albany or Oneida. Letters to two churches in Albany brought nothing. One answered, but the other one didn’t. I also drew a blank in Oneida? Are there any school records for names of students anywhere? 2. Donna Burdick
    3. Back in the 1970s, a Mrs. John Hall, R.D. 3, Canastota, submitted some photos to the Oneida Daily Dispatch for the "Seems Like Only Yesterday" section that often appeared in that paper. In at least one photo, she stated that the picture was taken by her brother. Can anyone identify this Mrs. John Hall, including what her maiden name was, and who her brother was--possibly a photographer? Thanks, Donna B.

Could you tell me which WOODARDS (or at some of the names) are mentioned in the bibles you have.
