    3. ..food for thought....Scrooge's mother died when he was born, if I remember correctly, and his father sent him off to boarding school at a young age and was cold towards him, and his fiance decided she did not want a workaholic for a husband. So he immersed himself in work and money, like many Americans do today. People nowadays don't think about that. Just food for thought. 3. Have you checked out the Merrillsville Brevities on the Madison Co. site? Just tonight, I was looking at it and noticed an item speaking about a "Mr. and Mrs. IRONS of St. Paul, Minnesota" visiting some relatives. 1. Census Ages and Pioneers Book are related
    2. Donna Burdick
    3. TOPIC #1 Just wanted to say that I agree about ages in the census. I've always wondered if people did know their actual ages! Here's a primary source that is not perfect. TOPIC #2 Regarding the Pioneers of Madison Co. book, you definitely do have to be careful with the entries in that book. It is a guide only and you have to check and recheck other sources, as someone else said. To connect these 2 topics, "Pioneers" is a secondary source that is not perfect. To me, working on genealogy is like solving a crime - the preponderance of evidence and that kind of stuff!

    3. Hi Nana Yes... Madison County folks are pretty neat. Personally, this has to be one of the most sincere and helpful groups of researchers I have been acquainted with. Lots of times, somebody out there has an answer, does an uninvited lookup (with good results), or can point someone in the right direction. Over the year or so that I have been acquainted, I have gained some very nice friendships and hope to see some of them when I "come home" early next summer. 2. Hi Nana Glad to help you. My husband is doing fairly well, but we are still recovering and repairing Hurricane Damage. I might be heading North to Lewis County again as my brother is not doing well. Just remember I will check anything on SDB that I can, but it does take me time as I do not have much time lately and I am doing 3 Genealogy Lectures in January. So I do have to get them together. But always willing to help an SDB Researcher in the Brookfield Area. . Regards Pat

    2. Hello In 1797 William Franklin was a member of the First Brookfield Church in Leonardsville, Madison Co NY. Also a member in 1797 was Sarah Franklin. In 1823 William Franklin was a member of the 2nd Brookfield Church in Brookfield NY and that church is still in existence. It is possible that there is a connection to your Franklin that married Miller here. I would write to the SDB Archives in Janesville WI and see if they have a marriage in their Brookfield Church Records for your Franklin/Miller Connection. Seventh-Day Baptist Archives. PO Box 1678. 3120 North Kennedy Road. Janesville , WI 53547. Regards Pat R

    3. Betsey MILLER was born 1787 in NY. She married John Franklin November 2, 1814 in Brookfield, Madison , NY I am hoping someone is researching MILLER and has this connection. I have plenty of FRANKLIN information to share. After the marriage they couple came to Allegany County NY with other family members.Betsey and John were the parents of 11 children. 1. Humble pie - yum yum
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. There's nothing like humble pie. A slice or two of it every so often keeps one in perspective. Previously I reported the addition to Chenango County of: Fairview Cemetery - Town of New Berlin - New Berlin Riverside Cemetery - Town of New Berlin - South New Berlin http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/cemetery.htm =================================================== To my surprise / dismay? I found out that what was reported as Fairview Cemetery was in fact Greenwood Cemetery, located in the northern end of the Village of New Berlin. Fairview is more centrally located and is situated beside St. Andrews Cemetery. There is a listing of Fairview (really) in the works. While there is a listing of Greenwood on-line already, I believe that it was from a DAR listing a number of years ago. This new list is from village records. ==================================================== Additionally, this morning I've uploaded several more pages of the Sherburne Centennial booklet - bringing the on-line total to 61 pages of the 111 page total. This new section entitled Historical address is chock full of names giving many family names origins to this and other areas. It along with the beginning of the book provide a lot more depth than any other work previously added to the site for the Sherburne area. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/shr100t.htm From what I've seen of the remainder of the booklet, it too is chock full of history and names. While I doubt I'll get the remainder on this year, I do hope to get another section or two done. ===================================================== As for Cortland and Madison counties I plan to continue in 2005 providing more records, book accounts of the history and peoples of those regions. I have at hand many contributions from many a fine visitor, which I am working through. Additionally in 2005 I will be working to develop a site for a couple of more central New York counties based on requests to do so by visitors to these three sites. While I have much on my plate, I do enjoy the variety so much as I offer comment, lend a hand to others as they seek their family history. Thank you all for that privilege.
