    1. returning pathways
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Not unlike many others before me, we are returning from the west to the east, from the North to the South. I know of many folks who went west, didn't like it or prefered back east or wherever it was they came from and went back. Others though sometimes went ahead, either sending for their families later or going back to get them to bring them to the new home. If you have relatives that did either option 2 or 3, those stories of the treks they made would make an interesting addition to the story of your family. Once again, here we are in Bloomington, IL - more or less half way. Today's adventures were 3 fold. 1 - seeing the beautiful hoar frost on the trees and grasses of the plains of Minnesota as ice particles fell from the sky in jagged strands 2 - seeing the car directly in front of me almost get smashed off the road by the trailer who didn't see the little blue car while trying to change lanes. Fortunately the driver of the blue car was able to steer onto the shoulder in time to not get squashed. 3 - driving 50 miles or so through a pea soup thick fog, getting right on top of stuff before seeing it. Not a fun time. - and so on - like sitting in the conference room doing Internet as the connection in my room isn't working. Ah technology - great when it works, frustration when it doesn't. Learned several things while on this trip regarding the area visited, picked up some new material with promises of more. Rain is forecast for about 1/2 of tomorrow's trip. We should get home sometime tomorrow evening. I doubt I'll get online tomorrow, so it will be either Friday or Saturday before I do, as I need to find an item before doing so (that I received about a year ago - lost in packrat land). For all those who've written, I will reply in due time - I have about 700 emails waiting to be downloaded as of now. If I don't get the chance, be safe and best wishes for the new year. ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell tstowell@chattanooga.net

    1. aunt Catherine's book
    2. Joan Meddaugh
    3. Hi all, Thought I would share the latest with you from good old snowy Candor, NY. Even with the snow it is sure good to be home. Many of you might remember that I was sharing the index of names with the list that Aunt Catherine had included in her book. She has given us permission to put the book on CD and possibly do a hard cover later on if it is so deemed necessary. But right now we are getting it ready to be put on CD. The original printing of the book was only 250 copies of which all sold. So there are no more of them. But I am writing to let you all know that I am taking tentative orders now to see how many of you might be interested in getting the CD of the whole book. I can't give you a price yet. But can tell you that the original book cost $25.00 per copy. But if any of you are interested in the book or think you might be, please let me know. The name of the book is called "Grandpas and Grandmas of Yesteryear. It is mainly of the family's of Meddaugh, Legg, Jackson Lathrop, Edwards, Deming. But there are many other families also listed that the Meddaugh/Jackson line is related to. Including my family the Beebe line. It seem's that Larry's grandmother Ethel Jackson Meddaugh wife of Frank Legg Meddaugh had a sister Ziphila Jackson. This sister, married Horace Roe and they had one daughter Esther. That daughter married Ralph Smith who is related thru 10 generations back to the brother of my William Beebe son of Samuel and Mary Keeney Beebe. There are other connections as well that are related to the Lathrop line which is the same line that is related to the Meddaugh side of the family. Hope to hear from you in the near future about your interest in the book. And if you want to can check the archives for the list of names that I took from the index of Catherine's book. Joan Beebe Meddaugh finally home

    3. ..we are the Michigan Rockwell's, descended from Charles Martin Rockwell His father was Thomas 'Tommy' B. Rockwell, of Madison County. I am really starting to think there may have been two Thomas Rockwell's in the same area about the same time. Ours lived in or near Munnsville. ..Charles Martin was one of the pioneers of Clinton County, Michigan, and had one of the very nicest farms there. ..I need to take the time to send you guys the research my mom has done, too busy too often, I guess. ..Thanks for the info, I forwarded it to my mom, in Michigan. Loo ----- Original Message ----- From: indi opie Sent: Sunday, December 19, 2004 10:39 PM To: NYMADISO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYMADISO] Thomas Rockwell < Hiram? Rockwell > 1855 Stockbridge Hi Don't take this as fact, but I think there may have been a Rev. Thomas Burr Rockwell who was acquainted with central New York, possibly in the 1830-40s. He was a missionary and married (of all names) a Polly Smith. His father, Thomas H. Rockwell, married abigail Hawley, and I do believe they may have lived in the Utica area. They are from the Thomas and Sarah (Rusco) Rockwell line too, but from their son, Thomas (not John). I don't know that line, but am quite sure Thomas Burr Rockwell migrated to Illinois. Unfortunately, this is a sketchy time period for Rockwell research and sorting out just the line I descend is trying. To complicate things, I am related to an altogether different line of Rockwells, through my 5g grandmother, Hannah (Rockwell) Smith, of Saratoga. (Incidentally <grinning> I refuse to do any "Smithing" of any kind for anyone - I am reaching new heights of senility.) Loo - I remember you writing about your Rockwells awhile back - a Wisconsin tie, I think. If you could reiterate, either here or offline, I could look up some things for you, regarding what you tell me. Just let me know what you want to know, specifically, and I will try to get you some answers. John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 2. LOO COURTLAND
    3. Do you believe there really is a Santa Claus? Well, you should. I'll tell you why. Santa and Mrs. Claus lived a long, long time ago, at the North Pole, as you know. They loved children very much, and had many, many children. And those children had many, many, many children. And those children had many, many, many children, and so on through the ages of time. And now, in our own time, we are all descended from Santa and Mrs. Claus, as you all well know from doing family history. So, if you want to see Santa Claus, just go look in the mirror. Loo Courtland....Happy Yule to you all.

    1. end of road - literally
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Ok, well not the real end of the road, but almost. We're less than 10 miles from the North Dakota border, so nearly at the end of Minnesota. It was -8 when we got here last night about 630. Not that much ice on the roads and not much snow either. The car issue - well the folks at the dealership said not to worry about it, for had it been a major problem it would have croaked long ago. It was -12 last night, this evening the last I looked, when we came in from supper it was -14, a number I've not seen since I was in Chenango / Otsego counties, New York for Christmas of '68, when it was -18 at night, -14 when we got out and double bundled up, walked down the river road on the Otsego side of the Unadilla River to South New Berlin, and the local grocery store, about 3 miles away. (Hey, young and foolish). Gathering historical data while I'm here, as I host a site for Wilkin county, MN (where my wife is from), and from other places as well as material presents itself. Trusting you all have a happy and blessed holiday season. ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell tstowell@chattanooga.net
