Hi there, Wondering if anyone might know anything about this family. I am trying to find a Sylvia Ann Beeman. She was born about 1837 in New York and died March 18, 1910 in LaSalle, Monroe Co., Michigan. She was married to Joseph Clark. He was born October 1828 in New York and died March 1, 1877 in LaSalle, Monroe Co., Michigan. I have Joseph's parents as William Stymson Clark & Mary Jane French. I am hoping to find out anything on any of these people. I don't know who Sylvia parent's are and have another Beeman line from Madison Co. I would like to tie together. the other line I have is Sylvia & Joseph's daughter Signora married Marcus Melzo Beeman, son of James Beeman & Caroline Case from Sullivan, Madison Co., New York. I can't seem to find anything on Sylvia about her parents yet. Sylvia & Joseph's children are Edward, Robert, Signora, Minerva, Charles, Almina, Sarah Addie, Katie and Lottie. I have these names from census'. I have them in LaSalle married in 1860 and am trying to find them in New York. The census below is from 1850 and wondered if this may be my Sylvia Ann Beeman with this French family as her future husband's mother was a French. Sullivan, Madison Co., New York July 24, 1850 James French age 53, farmer, b. Mass. Mary, age 43, b. Conn. Theodore, age 16, store clerk, b. NY Lucretia, age 14, b. NY Julius, age 13, b. NY Catharine, age 11, b. NY Albert, age 8, b. NY Ann Beeman, age 14, b. NY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anything would be great. Thanks, Beth

Hi, Jan, I think the address of the County clerk would just be : Madison County Clerk, County Office Bldg., Wampsville NY. 13163. The Office Bldg is just across the street from the P.O. so I guess they would know where to send it. My wife has Jones relatives with names similar to the one you mentioned, but there are many Joneses with same names-- but you never know. Her great grandfather was Rowland A. Jones, but came into NYCity and went to Deerfield in Oneida Co. But some of them then went to Nelson in Madison Co. Would be interested in hearing more about your Joneses. Hello everybody, Hope your all staying warm!!!! I was hoping that someone could help me with the Sweet family in Canastota. I had a recent discovery that my Thomas James (whom I thought was from Saratoga) had two sisters and a cousin that married Sweet girls. The first sister was Clarissa James and she married Eliphlet Sweet and is buried in Mt Pleasent. The second sister is Betsy James and she married Stephen Sweet I cant find any information on them other than a census page in 1860 she has my Thomas James' mother living with them that is the closest I have been to finding her. She was Mary Thomas James. The third James girl was Orilla Sweet and she married a Charles A. Sweet. If anyone knows anything about these Sweets I would appreciate it. Thomas James married Phyleane Quackenbush. The time period for this family would be between 1840 to 1930 Thanks for any help on this. Gigi James
Hi researchers, What is the addresses to contact the Wampsville Co. Clerk's office and/or Madison Co., NY? Am seeking Dec. Intentions Vol. 1, 1853-1888 p. 11, Rowland Jones on April 25, 1854, from Great Britian in the Town of Eaton [naturalization]. Am trying to verify that the above Rowland JONES is the Rowland JONES [born about 1794 in Wales], m. Elizabeth EVANS [born about 1798] who emigrated in 1854 to New York and later to Trenton, Onedia Co., NY, with children: 1) Elizabeth JONES b. 2 May 1833, 2) John R. JONES b. April 1838, 3) Emma Susan HUGHES b. ca 1839, etc. MANY THANKS :) in advance, Jan Jordan in Vermont
Joan: You are right--Ancestry is missing a few pages, I think. I believe to Godfrey Library and in that membership is Heritage Quest, but 1930 is not on line yet. Funny tho-- in 1910 Will Beebe lived on Baptist Street, and in 1920 he lived on Church Street. I have a warped sense of humor. I'll admit it. Dorothy
Hi, Today I noticed for the first time, in Canastota the street that used to be known as Cemetery St. is now, according to the sign, Mt. Pleasant. It is a short street of less than 1/2 mile that I don't think has an outlet. Along it is an Aldi's Market and a couple large warehouses. Mt. Pleasant Cemetery is at the "dead end". Hmmm! Chas
Pat Without looking at my chart, I "think" my lines come through Jonathan Burdick and his bro. Thomas. Hi, Listers, The Madison County Historical Society will be featuring the Town of Smithfield in a historical exhibit probably to run for about a month. Opening day, Sunday Jan 30 will feature speakers such as Town Historian, Donna Burdick and others. If you are close enough to attend then or to visit later, I think you will find it really interesting. There's a lot of history in Smithfield and a lot going on now to preserve it and dig up more. An active town! Just to let you know. Chas

Hi Donna I also have 2 Burdick lines in my Ancestry. Guess we are a bit of Burdick to say the least. I mentioned to Howard at one point a year or so ago that one should never under estimate the female Burdick descendants. He added it to the Burdick Newsletter and agreed. That makes us cousins somewhere along the line Regards Pat R
My grandfather and grandmother were married by Rev. S. B. Leary, Nov. 6,1907, in Randallsville Baptist Church (southwest of Hamilton in the Town of Lebanon). Also, in my grandfather's diary of 1905 he writes he is staying with his friend Fred Leary in Hamilton. They went to the college dance and to basketball practice. I think Fred was the Rev.'s son. Hope this helps!
Thanks, Charles for the stories. She never married and lived with her mother. Her mother died at age 100 or a little more. Alberta says Jessie didn't make it that long, she got only to her late 80's or early nineties. Buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Oneida, NY. Jessie was a "little different". in some ways she seemed smart enough, but she was in most ways sort of "child-like"--as if she never grew up. Maybe she was tied to mother so much she was never allowed to grow up. We lived about 4 1/2 --5 miles out of Oneida, and Jessie would think nothing of walking downtown for groceries, to see her lawyer, etc. ( I think smeone had been appointed as her guardian to handle her money) I don't think she was rich, but had enough income to get by on. As she got older, often, she would walk to town, but then try to get a ride back with someone. It was harder for her to walk both ways. Often when I worked in Oneida for the Ralston Purina Co. I would come into the office from the feed mill in mid afternoon, and there would be Jessie sitting there, waiting for me to go home. It might be a couple of hours that she had to wait. But she did what she had to do. She didn't want to bother anyone to make a special trip for her. One summer we looked over to her house and saw she was "up a tree" (litterally). She had climbed high up in the peach tree that grew by her back door! She wasn't going to let a single peach go to waste. Another time when the highway dept. scraped the roadsides and hauled the sod away, she went out and scolded the men, saying that was "her dirt" they were taking and made them dump it back on her property. Although she never had any use for it. One year when we were tapping our maple trees and making syrup, she let us tap the few tree in her yard. As the season ended and the sap began to taste "buddy". we pulled our taps to quit for the year. We started to pull the spouts in her trees, and she said " Oh, no, the sap is still running and will go to waste". So we left the taps in her trees and she collected the sap and took it in the house to boil down on her oil stove. A few days later Alberta visited her and found she had every pail and container she owned, filled, and was trying to keep up with the running sap by drinking it as fast as it ran.! She finally realized it was a lost cause and gave it up. She was generous and good hearted, and a few times she stayed with our kids if we went out for an evening. This was after our kids were really old enough to take care of themselves ( we didn't think it wise to leave her with little kids). She was a good and interesting neighbor. Thanks, Pat I was looking for the Janesville address for someone else, but since you mentioned Samuel and Tacy Hubbard, my husband and I are both descended from them, through Robert Burdick. I have 2 Burdick lines and he has "only" 1, so he claims I am more of a Burdick than he is. Donna, This doesn't answer your question really, but there was a Carlton Shay who was a well known CPA in Canastota. His office did my income tax return, I think, in the 1950's. His son, Peter Shay, took over his business and still lives around Canastota somewhere. I have a handwritten note that gives Ella's maiden name as Tufford or Jufford. I can't read the writing. Ella evidently died in 1953 at age 75. Her mother was said to have been a Green from the town of Smithfield. In the 1917 Rural Directory for Madison Co., I did find a David Shay with a wife Ella. They had 6 children and lived in Canastota. This sounds like the correct Ella. I'd like to figure out how she is related to any family in Smithfield - Greens or otherwise. > Donna B. > > > ==== NYMADISO Mailing List ==== > To post to this list - send email from the address you subsribed to the list with to this address - NYMadiso-L@rootsweb.com >
Donna, My mother in-law was a Green. Her mother Lillian Lucille Jennings born Dec. 29th 1887 in Candor, married William Everett Green and they had two children Everett and Evelyn. Everett had been married before and had a daughter Lillian Green who married John Machon of Waverly. Evidently she had lived in Candor for a long time since she was best friends with my father's sister Sue Beebe who lived in Candor from 1899-1916 when she married Lionel Stevens and moved to Knoxville, Pa. After Everett died Lillian married Dennis Dimon a jeweler. He died and she never remarried. Don't know if that Green is related to you or not but thought I would send this your way just incase. Joan in Candor
Hi Donna If you found the Obit on Ella Shay it would probably give you her correct Maiden Name. After that you could find the Obit on her mother and it would no doubt confirm if she was in fact a Green/Greene. Regards Pat R
