    3. Hi Carol, Randallsville is located just west of Rte 12B south of Hamilton going towards Earlville, NY. In the 1950s there was a good place to get "chicken in the basket" -- The Randallsville Hotel or better known as Pinky & Al's! I think Hamilton & Randallsville are in Madison Co. & Earlville just in Chenango Co.--maybe part of it in Madison Co. 3. When I think back, it was amazing to see each cow come in from the pasture, and go directly to HER place, seldom did they miss!!... A cow doesn't look like the most intelligent being, but they aren't all dumb either. My Dad was known as a "gentleman" farmer in that he only owned a small amount of acreage, and worked in the city, but was a 'farmer' none the less. We had pigs , chickens, a cow and I had a small horse. Dad had a way with his animals, they all trusted him and would do his bidding. Our cow, a Jersey, would come running when he went to the pasture gate and called her. Clarabell, yet!!!! She was quite a pet. So I have some first hand farm knowledge, even though that was 60 some years ago. I love it when something or someone brings back pleasant memories to me! Thanx. 3. go to google, type in cow stanchion, and at the top of the list is an antique wooden cow stanchion being offered on e-bay. A stanchion is a rectangular device, but a little narrower at the bottom than the top, and it was to hold the cow's head and neck in place while she was being milked. Dorothy

    3. Hello Actually, back in college, I lived in the Cornhill section of Utica and lived across the street from "a" cemetery. It may very well have been what you are talking about. If my memory is right, the cemetery was located between Rutger and South St, and I lived on Taylor Ave, which ran perpendicular to the two. That cemetery was also bounded by Conkling Ave. If you go to http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=TJNIFep_0ToBpB.jggXDK5C7ejswUA--&csz=utica%2C+ny&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= hopefully it will bring up the area. This is the only cemetery I know in the Cornhill area. There may be a Catholic cemetery to the south. 3. Hi Tim, Yes. Our Adolphus' grandson, George W. Walrath b. March 19, 1831, moved to LaCrosse, WI with his spouse, Marian Swift Walrath, in 1860. Lived there about ten years. Two sons born (one was my grandfather). Their names were Lue Leroy and Charles Percy. Then the family moved to Sacramento, CA, where I was born in 1929. Most of them are buried there. While in LaCrosse, George W. Walrath was a riverboat captain for one year up and down the Mississippi. He was also a newspaper editor some of those years. I have newspaper copies of some of those editions. He lived some place else in Wisconsin before moving to LaCrosse, but I haven't discovered where. I travel a fair amount, but could put in a couple of hours a week for you most of the time. I'd like to work on Madison county or Montgomery county, but could do others. Children were Peter N., John L. and Mary Ann I have a lot of information about them and their lines, but can't find anything about Adolphus and back further. P.S. I read every letter, but haven't written any for at least two years. I just keep reading and hoping to strike gold. Tim Stowell <tstowell@chattanooga.net> wrote: Chenango County: continuing work on Fairview cemetery - 3 sections left formatting Sherburne centennial material formatting 1860 census for Bainbridge ======================= Cortland County: continuing work on 1850 census alpha listing - 6 letters left formatting work on Cortland history ======================= Madison County: proofing/coding Hillside cemetery proofing/coding Oneida Presbyterian Church 1894 history transcribing New Woodstock history =========================================== Under the title that many hands make light work - as I've acquired a better way to get material out quicker to transcribers - I'm wondering if it would be of use to let you folks know by county what I'd like to have transcribers work on - what you could choose from? At present I have: Cortland - 2 active transcribers (James Knapp, asst CC as one of them) Chenango - 2 active transcribers (Elaine Decker, Mary Hafler) Madison - 3 transcribers (Pam Beger, plus 2 whom I've not heard from in a long, long time) Now to be fair there are others of you who have volunteered in the past, but I'd like to get a new group together and start fresh. I have waiting in the wings books (full or partial) for: Chenango - 5 (3 which just need coding) (1 in progress) Cortland - 10 (1 now being transcribed by James Knapp) (1 in progress) Madison - 11 (2 which just need coding) (3 in progress) These books / publications run from just a few pages to several hundred. Now I can with a couple of people helping eventually get these online - but the more the better / quicker it will be done. For those wondering what's involved - I would send you scanned pages of a section or chapter of a book, first a sample page to make sure you get it ok and can read it to transcribe from. If you could, then the section/chapter would be sent to you page by page. You would type up the selection and send me back a copy of your transcription. This could be in the form of a Word document, text, rich text format, some sort of word processing program. No need for you to worry about fancy type, italicized words, text size for I'd adjust that in the proofing / coding phase for my HTML editor strips out most of the formatting that word processing programs put in. I'd proof and format the material and place it online, giving you credit for the transcription. Interested parties please contact me.
