    1. Dan Weiskotten's death
    2. I am saddened to read today's newspaper about the sudden death of devoted historian Daniel Weiskotten. The obituary pasted below is online with the Syracuse newspapers at www.Syracuse.com. I think it would be a great thing for listers who have benefitted from his research to sign the guest book there. To me, Dan remains the younger brother of one of my former classmates. We rode the same school bus and I shall always remember him as a boy in his youth, in addition to the valuable contributions he made to Madison County genealogy. Sharon    Daniel Herman Weiskotten    May 6, 2005 Daniel Herman Weiskotten, 45, of Richmond, VA, died unexpectedly Friday, May 6, 2005. He was born in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late Herman "Bud" and Kathryn Morrow Weiskotten. He lived and worked in Central New York most of his life. Dan received his BS degree in Anthropology and Master's Degree in Archaeology and Public History from State University of New York at Albany. He had worked as an archaeologist in New York State and at the Lorenzo Historical Site and Town of Cazenovia Historian. Upon moving to Richmond, he continued sharing his knowledge of Cazenovia History and its past citizens through his website: rootsweb.com/-nyccazen/. Dan was a member of the N.Y.S. Archaeological Association, Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum, Mount Independence Coalition and corresponding member of the New York Archaeological Council. His job in Chesterfield County, VA allowed him to pursue lifelong interests in history, archaeology and education. He also volunteered time and talents to the Virginia Association of Museums and the City of Henricus. Dan was most happy exploring old cemeteries and rural byways with his dogs and in the dirt, whether teaching children gardening or archaeology. He was a skilled woodworker always involved with several projects in his historic Northside Richmond home. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Ley-Weiskotten; four brothers, Eric of Colonie, NY, Thomas of Tuscon, AZ, Paul and Kurt both of Cazenovia, NY; one sister, Jean Lanzan of Durango, CO; one aunt, Jean Benson of Tuscon, AZ; several nieces and nephews. Private burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Cazenovia, NY. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Linckalen House, Cazenovia, NY. Contributions may be made to the Cazenovia Public Library or C.A.V.A.C. There are no calling hours. Arrangements by the Richard F. Ayer Funeral Homes, Cazenovia, NY 655-8101. 3. I would like to join with the others of this list to express my sincere sorrow at hearing of Dan's passing. And so young! I know we will all treasure his input and all the help he extended to anyone requesting it. We have have lost 3 really great contributors and in a short span of time. But how much richer we all are for having shared some of their time. Pat J

    3. Hello Listers, I was looking at my Mothers personal papers and came by something of interest to me and was hoping I could find someone researching the Markert family. I have found letters and postcards and photos and cemetery stuff of a Joseph Markert 1884 to 1928 also a Charlotte Markert and an Edward Markert I have an address as 252 and 255 Williams street Oneida also an address in Canastota. I would like to know why my mother had this information in her personal papers and who these people were. I have found no connection to them in her family line. There is also a request for a bullet from the state police who are investigating a death. I would like these papers to go to someone. Help me solve this mystery!!!!! Thank you all Gigi

    1. Re: [NYMADISO] Henry l Coon and his desentants
    2. Thank you. Are they all Henry's descendants? I have a friend whose family is from Crawfordsville Iowa and just wondering if Henry had any descendants who might have lived in the Washington, Johnson, Louisa Cos. area. I just thought the researcher might know if one of the descendants made their way to Iowa. I research the Wolford - Wohlford family if someone asked me if Johannes Wolford's descendants went to say Nebraska I could tell them he had some in Omaha and Eustis, although there are probably 1000 or more Wolfords in Ancestry. 3. You are welcome. I have no idea if any of them are Henry's descendents. I am not related to them. I do know that Ancestry.com has one big mistake tho--in the census schedules (don't remember which decade) the taker abbreviated Indiana as "IA", so Ancestry has them from Iowa. I know it is a mistake as my ancestors lived in southern Indiana, as they still do, and they are listed in Ancestry as being from Iowa. Not true. Dorothy

    3. Jim: If you have a membership in Ancestry.com, the Coon in Iowa reads like this: (and I am only quoting a little) 1930 US Census/984; 1920 US Census/826; 1900 US Census/655; 1880 US Census/464; 1870 US Census/321; Iowa State Census, 1895/388, suffice it to say there are 18,243 matches in all their databases of people with the name of Coon living in Iowa.
