    3. Hi Listers, Has anyone ever walked the Catholic Cemetery of St. Joseph's Church on Hamilton? I have some information that some O'Malia relatives are buried there. Is there any place that I could email or write for more information? Mary Kay in So. Wisconsin

    3. Joan I was out of town and just got back. Maybe this reply is too late - perhaps you've already gone to Brookfield? The Town of Brookfield Historical Society, in their last newsletter "Bailey's Corner Gazette," published a map of all 58 cemeteries in the town. According to the map, there is a Beebe Cemetery No. 4 (also called Miner Family Cemetery) AND a Beebe Burying Ground No. 5 (also called Beaver Creek or Seventh Day Baptist). If you are coming north on Rt. 12, you probably already know that the North Brookfield Cem. is located just past the intersection of Rt. 12 with Swamp Rd. and Main St., on the left. The cemetery is visible right from Rt. 12. If you turn right on Main St. (from Rt. 12), you will come into the little hamlet of North Brookfield. Then turn left onto Mill Hill Rd. and then right onto Avery Rd. The Beebe Cem. No. 4 is almost immediately on your left (north side of Avery Rd.). To get to Beebe Cem. No. 5, you have to go back to North Brookfield and continue east on Main St., which becomes Ouleout Rd. or Co. Rd. #78. You take this road all the way into the village of Brookfield and then turn LEFT (north) onto Beaver Creek Rd. (Co. Rd. #99). You follow this road almost all the way to the border of the town of Brookfield. The cemetery will be on the right BEFORE the right turn that is Co. Rd. #82. I don't know whether either of these cemeteries is visible from the road or what condition they are in. I believe James and Chloe Hills are buried in the Brookfield Rural Cemetery in the village of Brookfield. When you come into the village from North Brookfield, you would take a RIGHT onto Beaver Creek Rd. You should also visit the Brookfield Historical Society in the village. I'd suggest calling ahead to arrange an appointment. There are several phone nos. given in their latest newsletter: (all are 315 area code) 899-3348, 899-5893, 899-5896, or 861-2651. It would also help if you had a Madison Co. highway map because Brookfield is not an easy area in which to travel. All the cemeteries I've mentioned are shown on the county highway map. The maps are available in Wampsville but, of course, that's at the opposite "end of the earth" from Brookfield. BUT, if you think there is a possibility that Hiram Beebe has a will filed in Madison Co., Surrogate's Court in Wampsville would be the place to check. 3. Here is a copy of a letter from Rev. Caspar Gregory's wife, Mary, detailing some information about their children: BEVERLY, June 9, 1894. My Dear Mrs. Jessup: It was with sincere pleasure I read your letter this morning and thank you very much for the remembrance. It is not a possible thing for me to be with you, nor any of my family, much as I would like to. If you knew what a household name Oneida is, you would understand somewhat of the love I have for the dear church and people there, many of whom have joined my husband in the land where changes do not come. My family is very much scattered. My daughters Mary and Anna are with me in Beverly, where we have lived since my husband's death. My daughter Edith has a college preparatory school in New York City. My three sons are out West, as also my eldest daughter, Lizzie (Mrs. Dickson), who lives in St. Paul, Minn. I suppose you know my son, Caspar R. Gregory, pastor of the Memorial Church, Wilkesbarre, Pa., joined his father two years ago last December, much lamented by his people, and a great sorrow to me. We often talked of Oneida, and he purposed at some time to visit there, although he was only four years old when we left. I hardly think the Oneida church and people can be any more dear to the hearts of you and your husband than they were to me and mine. We loved them very dearly, and I am always on the lookout for any notice of the church and its work in the papers. A host of names crowd to mind to whom I would like to send greeting, and be assured that the Oneida church, with pastor and people, will always have a warm place in my heart. Your friend, Mary L. Gregory. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Stowell" <tstowell@chattanooga.net> To: <NYMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 23, 2005 1:14 AM Subject: [NYMADISO] Thinking cap time > Ok folks, time to put on your thinking caps - > > A visitor writes they've come across an artifact with this inscription and > would like to know > more about the person and/or the person's family: > > Rev. 2. In a message dated 5/23/2005 1:16:42 AM Eastern Daylight Time, tstowell@chattanooga.net writes: Rev. C. R. Gregory Per History of the Presbyterian Church of Oneida, New York, published by the church June 13, 1894, this was Caspar R. Gregory who "came from Philadelphia. This is a quote from that book: " On the 21st day of May, 1851, the session resolved, That we invite the Rev. Caspar R. Gregory, who is a member of the presbytery of Philadelphia, having engaged to supply our pulpit for one year, to act as our moderator during his stay among us. Early in 1852 Rev. Mr. Gregory was unanimously chosen the pastor of this church, at a salary of five hundred dollars." Again quoted: "Dr. Gregory's relation with us was dissolved in March, 1864, that he might accept a call from the First Presbyterian Church at Bridgeton, N. J. The following is from a sermon of Dr. Jessup's delivered July 2, 1876: " Dr. Gregory was therefore pastor of this church for thirteen years, nearly twice as long as his predecessor, the honored and beloved first pastor, and more than three times as long as either of his successors. It is not too much to say, therefore, that more than any other he has made his mark upon the church. He ministered in times of agitation, when almost every church in the land was more or less disturbed, and doubtless this church did not escape. But throughout his pastorate the church grew steadily in numbers and influence, and not a few of those among us hold in grateful remembrance his pastoral fidelity and watchfulness." More: "From Bridgeton, N. J., Dr. Gregory was called to a professorship in Lincoln University at Oxford, Pa., where he remained until his death, which occurred February 26, 1882. He was fifty-eight years of age. His last visit to Oneida was in November, 1879" His wife was named Mary L. and a son William H. Gregory with no other details. Dianne

    3. Hi, Sharon. We've probably shared with each other what we have on the parents of Herbert Pitts, but for the list I'll post my stuff here. The father Edward Pitts also went by Edwin Pitts. He was in the 12 NY Infantry Regiment. My notes about him are meager - just the following: Edwin Pitts Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 11 December 1861 in Syracuse, NY at the age of 19 Enlisted in Company A, 12th Infantry Regiment New York on 11 December 1861 Mustered out on 17 May 1863 in Elmira, NY Sources: New York: Report of the Adjutant-General. 2. Hi Nana, You and I responded briefly in reference to the name REDELL, as my gg grandmother's name was Hattie REDELL Tilloston, and she was born in Cazenovia, Madison Co, NY., in abt 1861; I don't have my notes in front of me. Her parents were Stephen (Stephan) Reed and Lucinda Surviva HOPKINS Reed, born 1787 and 1790. Anyway, I was just checking in to see if you have any new information about the REDELL line that might explain why my HATTIE REDELL TILLOSTON, had REDELL as her middle name? There must be a connection somewhere. With all best wishes, Debera.

    3. Hi Debera, REDELL was my husband's name . The family was from Austria or Carpo Ruthenia and the original name was RIDILLA. As far as I know the family came late to NJ then to OH and my husband's branch to CA. I once did a search on whitepages and there are several more with the name. Also there was a Robert Redell who was from Canada my husband met at a coaching clinic. Actually I have not done any work on that line.
