Listers, I have reason to suspect that my great great grandfather John F IRONS may have had a brother named Orlando IRONS, who was born in 1809 (probably in Central NY) and who died 20 January 1876 and was buried in Christ Church Cemetery, Sherburne, Chenango County, NY. If you have any information on the parents or siblings of this Orlando, I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you. Found this notation while searching through old newspapers. "In Hamilton, Madison County, New York, May 21, (1844) John Marshall Atwood, eldest son of John Atwood, formerly of Bedford, New Hampshire, died. The Farmer's Cabinet." I hope it might be of help to someone. No relation to me. Dorothy
Good Morning, I am hoping someone can give me some help on the following men. 1. Reverend Theodore Allen of Mexico, N.Y., I do not have much information on him. I know he was in area in 1800's. He was married and had one son. I do not have their name's, nor his parents, siblings, his birth or death date's. 2..Reverend Alonzo Allen born 1843 Tompkins Co.N.Y. and died ca. 1884. Any help would be wonderful. Thank You, Sondra
Since my last update, these goodies have been added: Chenango County - At long last the 1951 directory of County and Town Officers contributed long ago by Jack Eaton. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/1951dir.htm -------------------------- 1880 History - Chapter 4 - Native American history in the region, the various alliances with the foreign powers, the betrayals, the wars to the time of the 1800s - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/1880-4.htm -------------------------- 1880 History of Norwich - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/1880-23.htm About 50 pages of material with extensive footnotes - 150 in all, which written in prescription bottle font was difficult for the transcriber and myself to read. Chock full of genealogy of many families. =============================== Cortland County - Nothing to report as I've been working almost exclusively on the giant Norwich chapter above. =============================== Madison County - 1872 History of Madison County - Appendix Notes, errata for the entire book. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nymadiso/1872end.htm ------------------------------ As of this week I am now maintaining Dan Weiskotten's site on Rootsweb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/ The only planned change at the moment is to replace his email address with a different place for folks to contact for comments / questions regarding the site. ================================= Lastly, regarding contributions / transcriptions - I'm about through the first batch of transcriptions folks started about 3 months ago. It's time to send out another batch to those who've returned their transcriptions. I'm having to reformat a work I did on a DeRuyter book as it is not viewing as it should in some browsers. A contributed posted to one of the county lists that they had contributed some material a long time ago that never made it to the web page. My apologies for that. When I went to look, see what had happened I discovered I had started formatting the work, then apparently got side-tracked, time passed and I forgot about it. I try to keep all contributions classed by county in seperate folders so I can see where things stand. Some contributions take more TLC than others to format for the web sites. Picture if you will a person standing at the mouth of a river and when it rains all the collected water comes to one point. In a way that where I stand as do others who coordinate web sites. At present I have to review this number of emails to see if there are items that need adding - Chenango - 469 Cortland - 59 Madison - 219 plus another 90 general ones and another 550, a goodly portion dealing with railroads in central New York. As I have varied interests I am always exploring new avenues of material which adds to the stacks - and folks keep sending material. So my plan is to attack these stacks one by one to get the backlog out and down. Comments welcome. Tim

I haven't found the one in the Oneida papers. I'd love for you to email it to me. Patty

Does anyone get the Oneida Dispatch? I would like a copy of the obit for Bettyanna Ward from June 20, 2005. I tried on the web but could only get today's obits. Thanks Patty
Actually, most viruses are written to attack Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which is the gateway from the internet to your computer. Word itself is not a target, so giving it up does not protect you in any way whatsoever. Perhaps changing a browser may offer you some protection, but Netscape and Firefox are also targets for virus writers. Instead, use your operating system's firewall and keep your virus protection up to date. That should keep you safe. Not using good word processing software gains you nothing. -- Christine Wands cmwands@alum.syracuse.edu
This is to help those doing gen work and reduce their vulnerbility to viruses. I apologize if I am stepping on anyone's toes. Most of you, like me, download information that you find on the internet. I am sure most of you use Word to save your data BUT when you are on the internet, opening Word is very dangerous - most viruses are written to attack MS software which Word is. To protect yourself, minimize your vulneribility, you should use another software. I have been using Note Tab Light for several months and it is perfect for those who need to download large volumes of data. Note Tab Light is a variation of Notetab but far more power- ful. A Note Tab Light file can accept almost as much data as Word and it is free! Yes, you can buy the more powerful version but I have found the 'light' version more than sufficient. There is a learning curve but it is very small. Note Tab Light will not replace Word - it is just another tool for you to consider. If you think this might be useful to you, the following link will take you to the website where you can down load Note Tab Light - be aware that this site also offers other Note Tab software that is for sale but, as I said, the Note Tab Light is free. http://www.notetab.com/ Karl karlme@earthlink.net
Hi Joan, hope you don't mind, do you see any Tribbets in the book. All I have is that a Fanny Tibbets 1847-1903 married an Asa P. White ( 1835-1919), and they lived in Pratt's Hollow. They were married in Hamilton where Fanny lived. Asa was living in Brooksville before the marriage. Their daughter Edith White (twin to Austin 1875-1939) married 23 Dec 1902 Archibald Perrine (1873-1951) and lived in Cortland. I've found the Perrines, but cannot find the parents of Fanny Tibbets or As White who had to live in Madison Co. at one time. Any info would be most helpful. Hi GMF My 3g grandmother, Rilda Sexton... married Silas Steward. Rilda is actually a person who I've been wanting to find out more about but never concentrated enough effort on, I guess. What I have is that she was born in South Plymouth, 20 Sep 1806. Not sure why, right now, but I believe this Plymouth reference is of Chenango County. I have seen it as Massachusetts, but believe that information is incorrect. Her daughter, Juliaette (as she referred to herself on a needlepoint she did at 15 years old, in 1848, I think) married Hiram Isbell. From the Robert Isbell book, Juliaette's birth was in Plymouth, Chenango. She is usually referred to as Juliet. Their daughter Edith married John Lippitt Phelps, the father of my grandfather, Stewart Burton Phelps. John -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Me again The M through R surnames are up now. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ameralia/centercemetery/madcenmr.htm I have just found an old list of some names belonging in the cemetery that will be added eventually. There won't be a lot of additions from this list, but anything helps. Also, I am a somewhat shameless spammer :-) so I may as well advertise (to anyone interested) that I have updated my freepages site. You will find the new stuff by a yellow blot with a red "New" written in it... http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~ameralia/ Happy searching John -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Thanks for responding. Wells D. Sexton, born 11 April 1805 in Town of Lee, Oneida Co. NY was a nephew of Lott Sexton born in Plymouth CT in 1802. Wells was my ancestor. I'm not able to locate any Rilda in my notes. Thought maybe we had a connection. G. M. F. Maranatha! ....................
