In my previous email, I asked for info on John Rickard from the 1855 census, I like to explain what I am looking for. John Rickert, 7/8/1773 to 8/5/1855, was my great, great, great grandfather and also a brick wall as far as research goes. Info on his origins has been very limited and somewhere along the way, I picked up something that led me to believe he was born in Herkimer County but perhaps I was wrong and the 1855 census gave another ancestor's location of birth as Washington County so I am hoping to do the same with John. Thanks for any help. Karl karlme@earthlink.net
Does anyone have the 1855 NY census for Madison County? If so, would you look up John Rickard for me? If you know where I can find a copy, that would be appreciated also. Thanks loads. Karl karlme@earthlink.net

For those who knew Mike- A news item in the Oneida Dispatch in August 1955: " Mike Hollingsworth and Mary Ponto were crowned King and Queen of Sconondoa Park yesterday." This was researched and noted in David Alvord's weekly column in the Oneida dispatch,"Remember When". David is Oneida City Historian. Mike grew up in the Sconondoa St. area of Oneida. Chas

When any of us finds a document that contains family information, ours or anyone else's, it is useful to consider how many ways it can be both shared and preserved. Some of these repositories you mention have wonderful collections that would not be possible if people did not plan for the preservation of information for all researchers. Just think if each subscriber to this list were to preserve one document for public research either digitally or physically, what a huge boost to retrievable information would be created. Thanks for that great list of repositories. Carol
Hi, Anyone out there know the address of the Glenside Cemetery Association? I need to write them looking for the grave of my GG grandmother Louis L Crandall Clarke. I have found her husband, Franklin G Clarke ( abt 1831 - 1889) in the cemetery but cannot find her. Thank-you for any help you can give. I don't know if the Onondaga County Public Library, Local History & Genealogy Department, 5th floor of the Central Library, The Galleries of Syracuse, 447 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13202, (315) 435-1900, website _http://www.ocpl.lib.ny.us/_ (http://www.ocpl.lib.ny.us/) keeps a collection of Family Bibles or not. This would be one of the first places I would suggest to inquire about donating the Bible, since it contains one of the largest collections in the area for Genealogical Research.. The next location I suggest would be the Tully Historical Society, PO Box 583, Tully, NY 13159, (315) 696-5973, (315) 696-4681, Fax (315) 696-4681, website _www.tullyareahistorical.com_ (http://www.tullyareahistorical.com) , email _eleanor@dreamscape.com_ (mailto:eleanor@dreamscape.com) . They have a number of individuals who are volunteering to transcribe and catalog information about the Tully area and its people. The Onondaga Historical Association, 321 Montgomery Street, 5th floor, Syracuse, NY 13202, (315) 428-1862, (315) 471-2133, website _http://www.cnyhistory.org/_ (http://www.cnyhistory.org/) , is another possible location to donate it, but their hours are very limited and a $$ fee is charged for admission to look at anything. Finally, I know the Godfrey Memorial Library, 134 Newfield Street, Middletown, CT 06457-2534, (860) 346-4375, Fax (860) 347-9874, website _www.godfrey.org_ (http://www.godfrey.org) , email _library@godfrey.org_ (mailto:library@godfrey.org) , takes Family Bibles in for donations. They also have a deal that for a $35 a year membership as a Godfrey Scholar, you can access their electronic databases from home. Databases include the Heritage Quest Online Census Collection & NewspaperArchive Elite (which include the Syracuse Post Standard Digital Archives as part of the over 400 US newspapers and a few foreign countries newspapers in their collection... not every issue or every year is included, but it sure helps me find a lot of obits I am looking for without paying for gas, parking or copies). Hope this helps! I'm sure each location would appreciate a copy of the important pages from that bible even if the Bible gets donated to a member of the VanBuskirk & Damon Families. Thanks Anne Ruggeri Brewerton, NY

You may or may not find a direct descendant for your VanBuskirk-Damon Bible, but on the other hand, you could come up with more than one. In the meantime, you can try a couple of things that may make the most of the information found in it. for instance, you might consider scanning or taking digital photos of all the significant pages and keeping them on your computer for an extended period of time until the related persons emerge. Those would be the title page describing the age of the bible with the version, date and edition, the signatures of the donors, and the pages with the various dates and family information. If you have several responses over time you can still share the full information with them even though you may have placed the actual bible with a genealogical or historical society, or an individual. I once purchased an old photo at an antiques fair because it had a name and place on it, and after posting the information to a couple of surname and location newslists, several people responded, so I was able to send the scanned images to all of them in addition to sending the photo to one of them. So it paid off for a number of people, not just one. Carol Boggs
Hi Sharon, I got some info that may be of use to you. Frank Van Buskirk is associated with Tully, Onondaga County (Syracuse), New York, and is buried in the Tully Cemetery. For a brief time he moved from Tully to Binghamton, Broome, NY When he moved back to Tully, he left a son Earnest in Binghamton. Laurence Van Buskirk, b 1919 in Binghamton and died in 1989 (location unknown) was probably a grandson of Earnest. Robert went back to Tully with his father. He appears on the 1920 census with wife Nella and a son Elbert. In the brief search I made, I could find no info on Robert, Nella, and Elbert. After 1920, Frank apparently had no Van Buskirk descendants in Tully, however he did have a younger brother, Charles. Charles had a granddaughter, Jeanne, who was born in Tully in 1919. I do not know who she married, where she moved to, or if she is yet dead. I would recommend contacting the Onondaga County genealogy or historical society. They may help you find a living descendant, or accept and preserve the bible. If that does not work out, I would love to have the bible, which I would preserve. I am a sixth cousin, several times removed from Frank. Bob Evans Allen, Texas
Every since my mother, out of hatred of my father, destroyed my LANCE family bible keep hoping one day to find another copy. Maybe someday. In the meantime God Bless you for rescuing someone's family treasure. Laurence Lance Seattle
If the family cannot be found by posting to different Rootsweb surname mailing lists, perhaps you might donate it to the genealogy society closest to where these people lived and died. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Garrett" <skye523@webtv.net> To: <NYMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2005 6:54 AM Subject: [NYMADISO] Family Bible > I stopped at a yard sale and found an old family Bible whichi purchased for 50 cents. I stopped at a yard sale and found an old family Bible whichi purchased for 50 cents. I would like to see it returned to the family members. It was given by Rev. & Mrs. John V Darrow and family on the marraige of Frank VanBuskirk to Emma Damon at Cardif on the 26th Nov 1873. Later given to Robert by his Mother. Have you tried sending a note on the Van Buskirk list? I am descended from Van Buskirks (all of them are related as they are descended from Laurens Andressen Van Buskirk who invented and assumed the surname in New Amsterdam in 1654), but not from Frank. However I have the definitive Van Buskirk book on fiche at my local LDS FHC. I will see if Frank is listed there, with some more descendants. If all else fails, and you do not want to keep the Bible, I would gladly take it to preserve Van Buskirk history. Bob Evans
Since my last report of 8/5/05: Chenango County: 8 new cemeteries in the Town of Greene - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/greene.htm ============================================================================ Cortland County: Working on broken links. Changing out email addresses from old to new ones for James Knapp and Vicki Titus to James' new address and/or mine. Reworking some pages as well. I believe I've just about finished this process. Will now work on reorganizing the web site to hopefully make it easier to navigate. 2 new cemeteries in the Town of Willett - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycortla/willett.htm Begining of the index of Grip's of Cortland - A and B only at the present time http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/cortland/books/gripcort.htm Continuing work oo Smith's 1885 history, Congregational Church of Homer and new items in the works. ============================================================================ Madison County: Other than to continue cleaning up Dan's sites, nothing to report. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This past week and the week to come as school starts a new year will keep me away from my computer as we go to a 75 hour work week. I'll work to squeeze in what I can, trying to tie up some loose ends and send more material to the transcribers - whom I've mostly caught up with - except for the items that have prescription bottle print on them and take a long time to proof. As to what else I spend my time doing - I played with a new program this past week to enable the creation of thumbnails (series of small pictures one can choose from to then see the larger image) - the results which are here: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/chatham/images/ads.htm - for Savannah, GA. The Madison County Historical Society has a listing of names of those buried there. I believe it was compiled by the DAR in the early 1920s. You may want to write to them and request a copy of it. I know they will do that for a reasonable charge.
