    1. Re: [NYMADISO] DeRuyter Institute and Building Committee (Various SDB Surnames)
    2. Hi Fellow Listers Questions come up from time to time regarding the DeRuyter Institute and I thought I would add this info. In the year 1834 operations for the DeRuyter Institute were started under the patronage of the denomination of the Seventh Day Baptist. The prime mover and Pioneer in the enterprise of opening a denominational school at DeRuyter was Elder Alexander Campbell. It was started by the untiring zeal of Elder Alexander Campbell and his building Committee in 1835 and at that time the following were members of his building committee. Henry Crandall LeBaron Godwin Elmer D Jencks Mathew Wells Jr. In 1836 the Seventh Day Baptist Legislature passed an Act and appointed the following Trustee's for the Institute LeBaron Goodwin Ira Spencer Elmer Jencks James Nye Alexander Campbell Joel Greene Martin Wilcox Eli Bailey Adin Burdick Mathew Wells Jr Perry Burdick In the Spring of 1837 the School was completed and Solomon Carpenter was appointed Principal and Sarah Robison appointed Preceptress. However the school did not open until Fall of 1837 and at that time there was a change in Principal and Eber M Rollo AM was appointed Principal of the DeRuyter Institute. I hope this is of interest to some of you. I had a number of Ancestral cousins and/or relatives involved in the settling of DeRuyter and the SDB church and Institute. Enjoy Pat R

    2. Hi Robin or any WING descendant This is not my direct Line but I have done a great deal of research on SDB families and I am sending this info in the event that you don't already have it. The SDB Church inDeRuyter was founded or organized Sept. 29 1806 and later reorganized in 1815. The Church was built in 1835. The first Pastor was Rev David Davis in 1806. In Nov. 1810 it was received as a Branch of the Berlin Church. So some records are in the records of the Berlin Church. Per the DeRuyter List of Members as Revised by Comittee appointed April 1892 is the following information. On pg 468 Rev. L A Wing was discharged to the Boulder Colorado Church on 9/16/1916 Mrs. L A Wing discharged 9/16/1916 Loretta Wind was discharged 3/16/1918 Robert Wing discharged on 7/22/1930 to White Cloud MI Richie Wing discharged on 7/12/1927 Jorce ? Thank you for sharing your Asian experience - it was, and is, certainly more than I could expect to be paid by any other means. Thanks again and hello to "our new niece." John

    2. I'm sure you all that are concerned with the Suits family have by this time seen the Suits family from the town of Eaton. 1920 Census had Merwin D. b. 1912, son of Frank and Maude. Frank was born about 1978. I believe his father was deLoss and mother was Mary. They lived in the town of Lenox in the 1880 Census and later moved to the town of Eaton. 3. Dear list members, Even though this doesn't fall 100% under the guidelines of this list, I feel that in honor of Tim's new addition to his family and the start of his own new family I would share a poem a friend of mine wrote in honor of his adopted children and gave us permission to print in the newspaper we own call the "Candor Statement" printed in Candor, NY. I have his permission to reprint this. Hope you enjoy it. To Love a Child by Dick Anderson To bear a child Not a mother makes In name only is it so For Mothers love In the heart is born And the hearts were It does grow The adopted child You've taken in And given love so warm Is just as much A part of you As if to you were born

Off to eat with friends for Easter dinner, Tian knocks their socks off after receiving a gift from them by saying in perfect unprodded English, Thank you. Yes, I do believe a few winks are in order.
