Dorothy, I had to double check my query to the list to see if I had asked a certain question about my aunt Lela Winifred Beebe Smith. So I did and found that I didn't ask the question. So here goes. It seems that about Aug. 1927 while living in Hempstead, LI, NY. she had complications from some surgery and died. Her obit said she is buried in Earlville, but didn't say what cemetery. Is there any way you could help me out by finding out which cemetery it would be in? I checked around on the site you sent me but didn't find anything. I did though find in Cazenovia,in the vital statistics that great uncle James H. Beebe died Sept 26, 1914. but they didn't have a death certificate #. Are you close by Cazenovia where you could call them free of charge to see what the # would be and perhaps find out what cemetery he is buried in? I was also hoping to find out what cemetery is wife Josie and infant son James are buried in. They died Nov. 21, 1908 give or take a few days. Gladys died in 1915 of diphtheria while living with her grandmother Mrs. Detlor. I am not sure if they were living in Waterville or Watertown. But am thinking it might have been Waterville as Watertown is quite a distance from their previous place of residence. James and Josie only had two children, Gladys b. about 1906 and James H. born about Nov. 1908 in or around Cazenovia. They all died and didn't leave any heirs. Any help you can give is appreciated. Also looking for more information about a little magazine owned and published by my grandfather William L. Beebe called "The Four Leaved Clover". It was published around 1898 at least to March of 1899 in Earlville. The magazine was a children's publication. I don't know what other things he published but presumed he also published a regular news paper in that same town. He may have worked with his nephew Frank Spooner who owned a print shop in Brookfield that he called the Brookfield Courier. Thanks, Joan

Joan - I am sending you a link for the Erieville Cemetery. There are several Beebes buried there. One might be of interest. There is a Beebe Rd that goes a little ways around our small lake here in Erieville. I think there have been Beebes here for several generations. I will contact a friend of mine whose mother was a Beebe and see if I can find out his mothers parents name. If you would like to contact me off line I might be able to give you more information. I am hoping that some kind soul might do me a favor by looking for the 1905 census that would contain James H. Beebe and his wife Josie, possibly daughter Gladys and her mother Mrs. Detlor. Last known place found I think they lived was Cazanovia. The 1910 census shows he was a widower living with his daughter Gladys and mother-in-law Mrs. Detlor . The 1910 shows his name as James H. Bulls or something like that but it is the same person. Also if there are any city directories for the area that might have some information in them I would appreciate that info as well. Originally he was from Brookfield, NY and his parents were Hiram J. and Ellen A. Hills Beebe of same. He was in Candor NY in 1900 according to the Census for Candor and lived with his parents for a while to help them with the newspaper they published. I am also hoping to find a marriage date for James and Josie. All I know it had to be sometime after 1901 as that is when she came to the US with her mother from Canada. They had a daughter Gladys about 1906. The mother Josie died in 1908 along with her infant son James H. Beebe Jr. and in 1914 James died, in 1915 Gladys died. These people were my great uncle and aunt. Sure wish I could find out more about them. Thanks. Joan Beebe Meddaugh

I was sent this link to thousands of records that London's famous Old Bailey prison has just put online. Interesting to say the least. Since many early settlers were transportees, perhaps a relative will be found (: http://www.oldbaileyonline.org.uk/ The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, 1674-1913 A fully searchable edition of the largest body of texts detailing the lives of non-elite people ever published, containing 197,745 criminal trials held at London's central criminal court. In one case I know of on the grave of a relative 40 years ago, the monumemt company removed the stone from the cemetery because of a misunderstanding about the payment (which turned out to be their mistake). If that was a common practice I would bet some stones never made it back to where they belonged, were kept by the workman, or put to some other thrifty purpose. Just a few years ago at another cemetery I saw numerous modern stones lying around next to a shed, rather than on the graves they belong to. It seems like a desecration to remove a stone. --Pam B.

Hi Chas and Donna I have a fairly current list of burials in Madison Village Cemetery. There are no Brainards, or Brainerds, buried there, with what I have. John
Chas. I got curious about Lydia and Frederick Brainard. I found them in the 1855 Madison Co. census INDEX. They were husband and wife, living in the town of Hamilton. He was 27, she 21. Both born Madison Co. His mother "Claria" Brainard, 45, b. Madison Co. was living with them and his grandmother Eunice Hopkins, 77, b. Rhode Island. In 1860, Frederick is still in Hamilton but no Lydia with him. Instead, Jennie S. Brainard, age 23, son Frederick S. age 3, and mother Clarissa E., age 51. Eunice is still with them (forgot to copy down her age). "Fred" and Jennie are in Hamilton in 1870 and 1880, and the son Fred shows up in there in 1900. He's married and his widowed mother Jennie is living with him. Perhaps the stone is for a child of Frederick and Lydia (definitely his first wife) or perhaps even a stone for Lydia herself, who evidently died before 1860? Chas. This isn't really an answer to your question but if someone has access to cemetery records for the town of Madison, perhaps these people are buried in one of the cemeteries. I've found that sometimes, when a family monument was purchased, the family brought separate (earlier) stones back to their property. I was asked if I had any information on a Brainard Family in town of Madison. A gentleman uncovered near his back lawn what appears to be a grave with a stone broken into three parts. As near as can be read, it is for Lydia and Frederick(?) Brainard. Anyone ever hear of that family? Chas

Hi Joan, The two blank messages resulted because I had done a copy/paste off the Ingalls' website, but didn't send them as a "plain" message. Rootsweb won't let "stylized" messages through. I re-sent them in plain mode once I realized what I had done, so you got all the info. About your computer crash at the newspaper, there is a recovery service that insurance companies, businesses and government agencies use after fires, floods, earthquakes, etc. to recover data from hard drives. It's located in Texas, but I forget the name. I'll try to track it down. Last I heard, the cost was a couple hundred dollars for a normal size hard drive, depending on various factors. But for a business, it's usually worth it. I'll check with our MIS people and see if they can direct me to the info.
