I am also interested in records of Genesee Wesleyan Seminary during the time period of the late 1850s and 1860s. I suspect a young man with the surname AUSTIN attended there and later became a lawyer. Susanne

My great-grandmother, MARY LOUISE KEECH, spent time in Lima, Livingston County, New York, in 1852 and 1853. Several poems that she wrote during that time say she is at Genesee Wesleyan Seminary. She had already graduated from the Oneida Seminary at Cazenovia, (Oneida County, New York) in 1851. Are there any records from that period, listing students and faculty at Gen. Wesl. Seminary? I am putting together the story of her life, and am curious as to what she was doing there. In her later career, she taught school briefly and then was employed as the matron at several institutions for the insane, in New York, Minnesota, and Oregon. Was there such an institution at Lima? Is it possible she was working there or getting training for her future work? She also lived briefly in West Henrietta, Monroe County, New York. Was there a college there or a mental institution? Can anyone refer me to a historian who could help me with these questions? Thanks for any light you might shed, Sandy

Schoonover Hemlock – Darwin S. Schoonover, 87, of Clay Street died Aug. 30, 2002 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born June 2, 1915 the son of Willard and Mabel Stone Schoonover in Rochester. He was a graduate from Hemlock High School and SUNY at Alfred. He was chaplain, commissioner and lifetime member of the Hemlock Fire Department. He had been master of Hemlock Grange; past state deputy of New York State grange and a member of the National Grange. He was a past trustee of Hemlock Lake Union Agriculture Society. He was an elder and Sunday school treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church of Livonia, and trustee of Union Cemetery. He retired from Livonia Central School in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Frances Beach Schoonover; four children, Brenda (Richard) Noble of LeRoy, John (Tamara) Schoonover of Pavilion, Thomas (Cathy) Schoonover of Warner Robins, GA and Kenneth (Laura) Schoonover of Livonia; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Laura, Timothy and Zachery Noble of LeRoy, Tyler, Trevor, Jacob and Noah Schoonover of Pavilion, Sean and Seth Schoonover of Livonia; two step-grandchildren, Cory and Jeffrey Sabins of Cohocton; a sister, Mary (Robert) Durst of Daytona Beach, FL; one niece, Dawn (David) True of Bremen, AL and nephew, Peter (Laurie) Teeter of Tampa, FL. Calling was held at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home in Livonia. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church of Livonia, Livonia Center, with Rev. Robert Kaiser officiating.
