    1. [NYLEWIS] Newspaper Article - Harris, Hosmer, Combs

    3. I have in my possession a transcription of a newspaper article dated September 28, 1908 which I believe I obtained from a contribution by someone on the Jefferson, Lewis or St. Lawrence rootsweb list. It relates the murder in Fine, NY of Harry Hosmer by Leslie Combs in front of the home of Lyndon Harris. I believe this article may have appeared in the Watertown Daily Times but it could, just as easily, have been taken from another "North Country" newspaper. The first paragraph reads in part as follows: "Fine, St. Lawrence Co., Sept. 28, 1908 - Harry Hosmer, 21 years of age, was shot and instantly killed by Leslie Combs, 18 years of age, about two miles from this village between 9 and 10 last night. The crime of murder was committed after Combs had robbed his victim and is believed to have been carried out because he thought Hosmer was holding back from him part of the money he had with him . . . . It is believed at Fine that he [Combs] was on his way to the home of Justice of the Peace, Lyndon Harris, before whom he was [arraigned(?)] on a burglary charge a year ago, and that he was bent on killing the justice with the 28-caliber rifle that he carried with him." Can anyone confirm that this article was originally in the Watertown Daily Times or, if not, identify the newspaper of publication? In either case, what was the date the newspaper was published?
