I have the following BAKER family info. If Minnie's ancestry is French or German (Alsace-Lorraine) and Catholic then perhaps she is a younger sibling of Barbara BAKER. My line of research is Barbara BAKER (1850-1936) married 25 Oct 1870 to Michael CAMPANY at St Stephen RC Church, Croghan,NY. In the church journal the entry spells their names as "Michael Kempeni & Barbara Becker" and does not list their parents. Her obituary states "Mrs. Campany was born in France Feb. 18, 1850 a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christopher BAKER." The 1855 NY state census for Town of Croghan, Lewis County, dwelling # 41, lists Christopher BAKER, age 55, 3 yrs resident, farmer Barbara BAKER age 42 Peter age 22, Margaret age 8, Barbara age 7, Nancy age 2 and Mary age 1 The parents and 3 eldest children born in France, the younger children born in Lewis County. There may have been other children born after the census. I do not know, since I could not find this BAKER family listed in the 1860 Federal census or the 1865 NY state census. I suspect they were living there but I could not find them listed. By 1865 I suspect the eldest son was married and living on his own. The 1865 census lists: Peter BAKER, age 32 born France with Mary, age 30 mother of 4, Margaret age 6, Christopher age 4, Catherine age 2, Mary age 1/12 (1 month) in dwelling # 83, Town of Croghan, 2nd election district. In 1875 NY census lists Christopher BAKER age 75, Barbara age 63, Christina age 23 and Basitian age 17, dwelling # 258, Town of Croghan, 2nd election district.
