    1. [NYLEWIS] From J. & R 1929
    2. Stanislaws Brdniewicz, 68, died at his home in Highmarket, Wednesday, after a short illness. He was born in Poland. When he came to America he first lived in Herkimer. Thirteen years ago he came to Highmarket and purchased the farm of Frank Anken, where he resided until two years ago, when he purchased the O'Brien brothers' farm, where he died. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Surdyk, and two sons, Walter, who lives at home and one son in the United States army, stationed in Texas. Mr. Broniewicz has been a hard working man and was highly regarded as a neighbor in the vicinity where he has lived the past years. The funeral was held at St Mary's church, Constableville, Saturday morfning at 10:00. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Constableville. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    1. [NYLEWIS] BRONIEWICZ in St Mary's cemetery - Constableville
    2. My uncle Stanislaw BRONIEWICZ lived in Herkimer for a time, then moved to Highmarket where he bought a farm from Frank Anken. He then bought a farm from the O'Brien brothers in 1927 and later died in 1929 at the age of 68. A funeral was held in St. Mary's church, Constableville and burial was in St. Mary's cemetery in Constableville. Does anyone know if a reading of this cemetery was ever taken? Is this an active cemetery? Is there any kind of directory of burials for this cemetery? Is St. Mary's church still active? He left a wife Kathryn Surdyk and two sons. One son Walter lived on the farm, another son (I think his name was Jacob) was in the Army in Texas. A third child daughter Jadwiga married a Hajczewski but died 2 years later in 1920. (These 3 children were from a first marriage.) Does anyone have information on the Surdyk family, or know where Kathryn is buried? Would anyone know if his first wife Eva is buried in St. Mary's? George

    3. Ron - such a great offer. Please check for "Anne (Austin) Alford, and/or Asahel Alford". The latter died 1838. He lived in Watson. Like Deborah Waite said, there may be no grave stones, then I also would be interested in some other record of burial. Thank you! Vieva

    1. Re: [NYLEWIS] Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery Watson NY
    2. Hi I have spend many years researching the Watson Seventh Day Baptist Church (and their members and the Burials of members in that Cemetery (also other SDB settlements). My Cemetery List is completely different from any of the previous surveyed listings (that included only existing stones) as I have collected Burial Information from many other sources. Many of these Burials have not had Grave Stones for years. Perhaps only wood or field stones were used as markers in these Early burials. My 3rd G Uncle was the first Pastor of that Church and many of my Ancestors were members. I also grew up in Lewis County and remember this Cemetery way back before they cleaned it up. Pat R

    3. Deborah It is possible there is a plot map the building in front of the cemetery is well kept along with the cemetery which is still being used. The week day I was at the graveyard there wasn't anyone around as I usually ask to see any maps of unmarked graves. You could check to see if Lowville has a cemetery association, which may have info on who to contact. I know Guy Merry takes care of several cemeteries but I don't have his number. 1. [NYLEWIS] Help for looking up census records in Lewis County from one of my buddies.
    2. Yes, Denmark includes Castorland as well as Copenhagen Hamblin's Corners (West Lowville) is in the Town of Lowville. East of the Black River Port Leyden is in Lyonsdale, West in Leyden as you stated. Only populated area in Lewis with a name is West Leyden. Lyons Falls is partly in West Turin and partly in Lyonsdale, split by the Black River same as Port Leyden. Montague and Osceola are both in Lewis County but NOT Macomb. New Bremen the only named population center in town of New Bremen. Pitcairn is in St. Lawrence County. Constableville is in the town of WestTurin, only Turin is in Turin. Glenfield is in the town of Martinsburg, just across the Black River from the town of Greig. Hope this was of some help. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    2. By the way, in Lewis County the orphanage and the Old Folks Home were all the same prior to about 1932 and Social Security and Welfare. I am not sure what changed them, but when I was growing up there was still an Old Folks Home (Home for the aged) on outer Stowe Street. The only orphanage I can remember was the one in Watertown, on the right hand side of the street as you entered Watertown from Lowville on route 12. 1. Re: [NYLEWIS] An 1870 census lookup request
    2. The census is done by township, do you know what township he lived in and what years? For instance: Town of Ava, Croghan, Denmark, Diana, Greig, Harrisburg, Leyden, Lewis, Lowville, Lyonsdale, Macomb, Montague, New Bremen, Osceola, Pitcairn, Turin, Watson, and West Turin. Croghan includes Beaver Falls and Croghan. Denmark is just north of Lowville, on route 26, I believe. It might also include Castorland, I don't know. Diana is Harrisville and includes Lake Bonaparte. Harrisburg is going northwest out of Lowville and includes Hamblins Corners, I believe. Leyden includes Port Leyden west of the Black River. Lewis, I am not sure. Lowville of course is Lowville. Lyonsdale is just east of the Black River, outside of Port Leyden and goes all the way to the Moose River in Lyonsdale. Macomb, Montague, and Osceola are up on the Tug Hill, I am not sure if they are in Lewis County or not. New Bremen is on route 812 northeast of Lowville. Pitcairn is just across the line from Harrisville and Town of Diana, it may be in St. Lawrence County. Turin is on route 26 going towards Boonville, it may include villages of Constableville, I don't know. Watson is on the #4 road, going south east out of Lowville. West Turin probably includes Constableville. If anybody knows these locations better than what I put here, please let me know. 3. I would appreciate a lookup in the 1870 census for ALEX(ANDER) MITCHEL(L), who was born in July,1869 . At some time before the age of seven, he was put in an orphanage. At the age of seven, he was adopted by a couple from Ontario. By the way, he was Native American. Many thanks, Kathy Thought for the Day: "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80.
