Okay, that little two room school house is still there, it is on the corner of the street. Dick **************Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape. http://body.aol.com/fitness/winter-exercise?NCID=aolcmp00300000002489
Pat, when my brothers and I attended the little brick 2-room school (near Mill Cr on E State St), I think it was part of the Lowville school system. I recall the day we all "moved" from there and walked up to N Main St for a temporary location (near the monument by the Presbyterian Church) until the new school was ready. That must have been about 1926-1927. ...Luella ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2008 11:53 PM Subject: Re: [NYLEWIS] NYLEWIS Digest, Vol 3, Issue 4 > Hi Again Luellla > > Seventh Day Settlement was gone prior to 1924-25. My brothers and I walked to the Seventh Day Settlement school down E State St, almost to the Mill Cr. It was the small red brick building, now a home, at the corner. Going back to last week when we were discussing the origin of human beings, you may find some info by going to your web site and keying Origin of Humans. One of my two books may be found in your library or you can buy one at a book store. The most recent book on this matter is: "THE STORY OF MAN" published last year and authored by Cyroll Aydon in England. It is a brief composite of the world's origins of humans and their transitions of over millions years that includes going back to 150,000 years ago. It's a fascinating read. If you like history as I do, you will love the book. Ken in NJ
I had Miss Kotary for 7th grade social studies, that would have been about 1958. She was a very good teacher. I graduated in 63. Hi Again Luellla Seventh Day Settlement was gone prior to 1924-25. The church closed a number of years prior to that in 1908 and most of the people near that area had moved west. Records do not indicate any school that was associated at or with the settlement which was off Peckham Road near the stone Quarry.. Pat R

Grace was a very good teacher. I liked her, but I think she got mad at me when I didn't study for the final and bombed it. I had some regents to take and had just under a 92 average, so I just felt my time was better spent elsewhere. I heard she thought different. My great grandmother was a Moyer, her father was Frederick Moyer, who came from Germany and they originally lived down state, New York. His first wife was Mary Moyer, same name as the daughter, my great grandmother. Frederick came to the US about 1847 and settled at Forestport, after some other earlier residences in down state New York. Frederick was born in Wittenburg, Germany, where he was a shoemaker. He had five children by Mary Moyer and later married Anna Scholl. They are both buried in the old abandoned cemetery at Forestport. Also buried there is Frederick, his oldest son who died at 23, a daughter Hannah, her husband and two of their young children. I don't know where Mary, his first wife was buried. Mary Moyer, my great grandmother is buried in the Port Leyden Cemetery. A brother of Mary, John Moyer is buried in Sand Cemetery, outside of Greig. John started a number of pulp mills and other businesses in Lewis County and was a partner with Ager, who had Ager Falls in Lyondsale named after him. **************Start the year off right.
