    1. [NYLEWIS] George Loucks (1827-1867) son of Joseph
    2. I am trying to help a lady to join DAR through George Loucks (1817-1867) who married Ann Tuttle. George was the son of Joseph Loucks and Mary Snell. Does anyone have ANY documentation that George was the son of Joseph and Mary? Is there an obituary for George showing his parents? George died in Lewis County, NY in 1867. Is there a will, etc. of Joseph showing a son George? Joseph died in St. Lawrence Co, NY in 1866. The problem is that in 1850 George and Joseph are living in different counties. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phyllis in Georgia **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. 1. Re: [NYLEWIS] Researching Beyer's of Lewis County REPLY
    2. Hi Ilene I am not a member of the Beyer Family but wanted to give you some direction that might help you in contacting Beyer Family members still living in the Lewis County NY area. You might want to go to this URL and first go to Lowville Journal & Republic, then put in the name of each member of the family (state exact) URL http://news.nnyln.net/ This will give you some Newspaper articles about the family. It includes information about some past family Reunions that were held. It also gives information regarding Martin as the first Beyer settler in this County. Just remember that newspaper articles are not always correct and information taken from them should be double checked with original records. His brother Phillip is a pastor (and it is stated in history information from the County Historical Assn.) and several articles make reference to him. He served as a Pastor of the Evangelical Baptist Church in Naumburg. This church was organized in 1859 with a membership of 18 people. The first church building was built in 1861 and was erected a mile north of Naumburg on the road to Carthage (which is no doubt the church that Phillip was Pastor at). Phillip is listed among the Pastors that served this year The next Church was built on the Van Amber Road in Naumburg. My Phone book for that area is a few years old, but it did list the following Telephone number for Evangelical Baptist Study Area Code 315-376-6972. They also might have the old Church Records with Vitals and family information in their records or where the archives are held. You also could contact the Lewis County Historical Society at Lowville New York and request any family information that they might have in their files (along with information on the History of the Evangelical Baptist Church). The Office is not open during the Winter Months but you can still contact them per the following:. Mailing Address: P.O. Box 446, 7552 S. State St., Lowville, NY 13367 Telephone: (315) 376-2825, or 376-8957 Contact: Lisa Becker, County Historian Like most non profit organizations they rely on volunteers to help and donations to continue their work. A SASE and a small donation for their efforts is always appreciated. Per my old telephone book, I note a number of Beyer families still live in the Lowville area and perhaps a request for contact with a family member still living there would also be available contacting the historian office. Another source would be the Lewis County Court House located in Lowville NY. They would have Land Records, Court Records, Guardianship Records, Military Records and Wills relating to the family. County Clerk: Doug Hanno Lewis County Court House Lowville, NY 13367 Phone: 315-376-5333 Email: [email protected] Good Luck Pat R

    1. [NYLEWIS] copy of article from utica newspaper circa 1937
    2. 75th Church Anniversary Marked at West Leyden Boonville—This year marks the 75th anniversary of St. Mary's Catholic Stone Church at Prussian Settlement, and this weekend a bazzar and dance is being conducted at West Leyden in honor of the event. The church was built in 1861, about three miles of West Leyden, by early settlers who came to this country in sailing boats. They experienced a difficult voyage and pledged to build a church should they arrive in America safely. The immigrants came from Prussia and upon settling near the Village of West Leyden called the place Prussian Settlement and the church which they built was originally called the Prussian Settlement Church. The church was built of stone taken from the fields on which it stands. The cost of the church was comparatively small as all the work was donated as well as building material and the lot on which it was erected. The latter was donated by the Urtz brothers. There is also a cemetery connected with the church and the adjoining farm is still in possession of a descendant of William Urtz, a son of Peter Urtz, who was one of the first settlers. Ludwig Fey was the leader of the, building committee. Elizabeth Urtz, daughter of John and Elizabeth Deusch Uerz was the first child to be baptized in the new church by the Rev. Father Leopold Moorygemberm, O.M.C.V., of the Black Franciscan Order. There was no resident priest at Prussian Settlement, this church serving aa a mission, with the pastor residing at Mohawk HDL The pastors who served in St. Mary's Church from Mohawk Hill were: The Rev. Peter Maly, 1861; the Rev. Odenius Vogt, 1862; the Rev. Ladislaus Kortem, 1863-1864; the Rev. Bernard Teutenburg, 1864-1867; the Rev. Clemens Lintz, 1867-1868; the Rev. J. B. Back, 1868-1869; the Rev. Norbert Statler, 1869-1870; the Rev. Clemens Luitz 1870-1873; the Rev. M. Orth, 1873-1877; the Rev. Mod if Camillus, 1877-1880. The Rev. Peter Pius, 1880-1882; the Rev. Hugo Kumer, 1882-1883; the Rev. Kircher Fidelis, 1883-1888; the Rev. Joseph Weiand, 1888-1907; the Rev. F. M. Kenny, 1907-1913; the Rev. W. Creedon, 1913-1914; the Rev. James Rensing, 1914-1920; the Rev. Adolphus Vollmar, 1920-1924; the Rev. F. P. Divinity, 1924-1926. The Rev. B. A. O'Conneli, tie present pastor, has served since 1933. During Father Divinity's administration the new St. Mary's Church was built in West Leyden village, and consequently a newly established parish having as its missions St's. Peter and Paul's Church, Fish Creek, was formed. Father Divinity did not remain to see the church completed and in October, 1926, accepted a call to Constableville. The Rev. B. A. O'Conneli was! the first resident priest here and through his efforts the new church was completed and the first Mass celebrated on Christmas Eve, 1926.The structure of the old church at Prussian Settlement still stands, but the statues given by members in memory of the early settlers were brought to the new St. Mary's Church for decoration **************Start the year off right. 2. i have the original newspaper article about the Stone Church fire....from the files of the original Urtz family genealogist and family Historian ...not to mention the fact that she is the Granddaughter of John Uerz(John Urtz II), Mrs. Mary Maier Hoffman.the article is noted as spring 1940.Also Anthony Urtz obituary circa 1912 states that John Urtz(Anna M. Baulig) the father of the 6 original Urtz(Uerz,Uertz) children donated the land where the Stone Church was to be built and the father and sons practically built the church because they were carpenters.....there was also talk of a feud between the Urtz and Fey families as to who was responsible for burning the leaves in the area on a windy day and were told not to burn them.the leaves were blown onto the church roof where the fire was believed to have started ..then again possibly just a story. Anthony Urtz sang in the choir until he moved to Rome,NY 8 years before he died. **************Start the year off right.
