Dick I made a mistake on my last message. Louise Fenton 1852 was Herman's sister she married Jason Moyer son of Joseph and Ellen Moyer. Albert Fenton 1824-1905 their father married Betsey Mayer 1829-1909. His obit has Mayer. Her obit doesn't mention her family. Ron
Well, in that case we are related through Hess and Moyer. Frederick Moyer, came from Germany in 1847. His daughter, Mary, married Conrad Marmon, my great grandfather. So, depending upon which Moyer Louise married, we are related through them too. Did you know that Alexander's wife, Ann Higby Hess had a brother, Martin F. Higby, who was killed in the Civil War? He enlisted twice, I think. I know he enlisted the last time as a sergeant and received $30 bonus from the 9th Minneapolis. This last time he enlisted and left Feb. 15, 1864 from Utica to meet the 9th Minnesota, in Buffalo, NY. They gave him $15 for the train trip. His unit was engaged at Bryce's Crossroads, June 1864 and he was captured, taken to Andersonville, where he died from dysentery. He is buried in Andersonville National Cemetery. Conrad Marmon was also in the Civil War. He enlisted in August 1862, in the 14th NY Volunteers, which today would be called the National Guard. He went to Alexander Virginia, fell while out on skirmish line, in early September, and receive a 7" cut. This bothered him immensely, according to the hospital records. He later was in the Antietam Battle, but luckily for him and us, he was never engaged, his unit was held in reserve. In December he made it to Fredericksburg, Va., but was in bad medical condition and passed out. The first sergeant took him to the hospital and he spent the next 93 days in the hospital. Lucky again for him and us as his unit went up against the Stone Wall at Fredericksburg, Va. and a number of them were killed. Conrad was discharged, March 3, 1863, just before the Battle of Chancellorsville. Again lucky for him and us. On my father's side of the family David Evans was also in the 14th NY Volunteers. He was in the Penninsula campaign in early June of 1862, where he was wounded in the hand. David woulld be my great great grandfather. He is buried in Collinsville Cemetery, I beleive. The statue Lowville is trying to restore has none of the three listed on it. Dick In a message dated 6/3/2008 4:25:37 P.M. Hello Vieva, Yes please I would love a copy of the pages as I don not have access to HeritageQuest. This is truly appreciated! Many thanks Heather There is a book written by Franklin Hough, "The History of Lewis County, NY". It appears that she lived near the 'line of Grieg'. On page 433-434 is an account of the death, murder ?, of Priscilla Budge. You can access it online if you have a card with a library that provides HeritageQuest services. If not, let me know and I will copy and send it to you, IF you want it. Vieva in Colorado
Alexander A Hess is buried in Sand Cemetery, Greig. He is my great-grandfather. He is the father of Fred H, father of Glenn H, who is my dad)... Charles Gray's 2007 book, "History of Brantingham" contains complete info on the cemeteries in that area. -----Luella, in NJ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 02, 2008 2:14 PM Subject: Re: [NYLEWIS] Priscilla BUDGE > Ron, who are you related to in Sand Cemetery? > > R. Hello Ron, Sorry to have wasted your time but it now seems that she was buried in Port Leyden, but I am told that there are two cemeteries there and I do not know which one of them that is. Thank you once again for all your time and help, it has been truly appreciated. Best wishes Heather I checked about 120 photos I have of Sand Cemetery but I'm afraid I didn't find her. The one article I found in the Journal (1860) doesn't mention where she was buried. Ron

Hi Luella, Yes Henry & Priscilla had six children, Henry, Edward & Charles remained in different parts of the US, Priscilla married and went to Canada, Jennie the youngest remained and married in Port Leyden and Mary I have no idea what happened to her Henry senior re married twice more , first in Canada where he had a son William & daughter Elizabeth and the second in Australia where he had a son Henry & daughter Jennie. Henry died there in 1906. All the best Heather Hi, again, Heather...... The book title interested me so I checked it on-line. I see that Priscilla (Selina Winnicott) Hosking married Rev. Henry Hilson Budge. There were 6 children mentioned, including a daughter, Priscilla, and a son, Henry. --so there are two with the name Priscilla Budge? Probably the historian for Greig could give you information. Regards..... Charmaine, In my Yahoo search, I entered the book title, "The Greig Affair - An 1859 Tragedy". Then I clicked on one of the items giving info on Henry H Budge which mentioned he married Priscilla Selina Winnicott Hosking. They had 6 children, including a daughter, Priscilla, and a son, Henry.
