    3. David, this is Ken Everard who was born & brought up in the village of Croghan. I'm curious as to whether anyone has ever found anyone doing genealogy there. MIght there be a book about Croghan as there is one for Beaver Falls? Ken ----- Original Message ----- From: "W. 2. First, go the genealogical web site for Lewis County, which is: _http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nylewis/_ (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nylewis/) Try the Journal and Republican web site for old newspapers. **************Life should be easier. So should your homepage. Try the NEW AOL.com. (http://www.aol.com/?optin=new-dp&icid=aolcom40vanity&ncid=emlcntaolcom00000002)

    2. Letha Chunn-Mendivil
    3. Hello! I'm new to this list, and am hoping that someone can help me find information on some elusive ancestors. The family in question is as follows: Archibald Johnston/Johnson b. Scotland abt. 1798, d. prob. in Lewis County, NY, abt. 1870, and his wife, Hellen/Helen Barr Johnston/Johnson b. Scotland abt. 1805, d. 12 Jul 1886. Both the Johnston/Johnson spellings have been used throughout the information that I've been able to find on them. Their children are Archibald Johns(t)on b. in Scotland abt. 1828; Ann B. Johnston (Mrs. Charles A. Reed of Wilna, Jefferson County, NY) b. Canada, 1831-1916; Hellen Johnston b. NY abt. 1833; James Johnson, b. NY abt. 1837; Jane Johnson, b. NY abt. 1841. Note that James Johnson was the Postmaster of Copenhagen, Denmark, Lewis County, NY, in the late 1800s-the early 1900s. I understand that the Johnsons/Johnstons are written about in a history of Lewis County, but I don't know which one. I am hoping that a fellow lister is willing to do a lookup! I'm also interested in information abt. the marriages of the children and finding any descendants out there. Finally, I would love to find out where in Scotland Archibald Sr. and wife Hellen were born! Thanks very much for your help. Sincerely, Letha
