I've been researching over 15 years," It is listed, I won't speculate as to why you could not find any references to it. 1910 Federal Census - Kings Co., 16th Ward of Brooklyn, ED 330, beginning on sheet 8B. 1905 New York State Census - Kings County, AD 15, ED 10, beginning on page 38 1900 Census - Kings Co., 16th Ward of Brooklyn, ED 234, beginning on sheet 1B =============================================== "Where's your confusion? I don't know how I could have been clearer - - - I am looking for - what 188 Manhattan Ave was - in 1909!" You could have been clearer by asking "what was Manhattan Ave in 1909" as opposed to what orphanage/hospital was at 188 Manhattan Ave. Even if the address had proven not to be in any record (which obviously it is) I fail to see how that leads to the conclusion that it was an "institution." ============================================ "Many answered my posts about this, all said this part of Greenpoint was Irish at that time!" Except that this address in in Williamsburg. With the building of the Williamsburg Bridge in 1903 thousands of Lower East Side Jews crossed the river to a better life in Williamsburg. Between 1900 and 1920, Williamsburg's population doubled as immigrants arrived from Eastern Europe, including Lithuania, Poland and Russia. ==================================== Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
