Author: BobNY Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/16427.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am confused as to what you are seeking. You say you have your mother's birth certificate. It states, among other items, her mother's name, her father's name, the address of the birth. I do not understand why you assume that the address was that of a foundling hospital/orphanage. First of all, there was no Manhattan STREET in Brooklyn in 1909, nor do I believe there ever was one so named. Let's assume that the actual address is 188 Manhattan AVENUE. If this is where your mother was born, it would appear from a map of that era to have been a 3 story tenement. In the 1910 census, it was occupied by 11 families headed by immigrants or first generation Americans, 10 of whom were Yiddish or Polish speaking. What specifically do you want to know?
