My mother has mentioned that her father was possibly in the Sheriff's department during the reign of DeBragga. I'm not even sure of the spelling or what his "reign" was. She was born in 1913 and said she remembers this from when she was little, probably before the age of 7. Supposedly he transferred prisoners to Sing Sing Prison. There was a Joseph DeBragga who was a sheriff in Queens, but I don't know if he is the one. I'm actually wondering if there are any records of those who served in these capacities in the boroughs. She has also said that he may have worked at the Brooklyn Naval Yard. At 92, her memory has a few faults, but I remember her talking about this many years ago. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. When a person dies, a library closes.
