The family moved to Turku in Finland in about 1828. Harald applied for and got Finnish citizenship in 1849. Harald became chirurgical instrumentmaker in Helsinki. He met his wife to be, Maria Fredenberg (née Fri or Fried)in 1850. Harald and Maria were married in Helsinki 6.11.1851. (Maria was then 48 and Harald 25 years old). Harald, who had got permission from the Helsinki magistrate, set up an instrumentmaker's shop in the quarter owned by Maria in Helsinki. Helsinki parish records 1856-59 tell that Harald had been warned several times for quarreling with his wife and left her and was living in Russia. (Maria died in Helsinki 1867). Harald went to St. Petersburg in 1859 at the latest, because that year he is mentioned in the parish records of that city and further in the records for 1860-70. After this he does not appear in any records I have searched. I know that! Harald emigrated to America in 1863 at the latest because his death is announced in a Swedish-Finnish newspaper, Aftonposten,on the 7th of February 1896. The notice says that he died recently in Brooklyn, New York at the age of 60 (incorrect, it should be 70)after having lived in Brooklyn for the past 33 years and that persons who want further information should contact Mr. A. Ara, 776-4th Avenue S. Brooklyn, New York. He could have gone to USA either by the eastern or western route. I have not found him in any records of the USA so far (ships records, US censuses, the newspaper Brooklyn Eagle, under Sundholm in acestry.com). If anybody knows anything about him please contact me.
