My friend had looked in the 1910 census and found - Mabel Patterson living in NY, Kings, Brooklyn Ward 29. Other people in house listed as Mary A. Harris (Head) - widow, aged 45; Mabel Patterson (daughter) - single, aged 26 - born in Pennsylvania. The little girl would have been born c.1906 so I was hoping that this would be her. I don't know how you go about looking for a birth certificate in the US. I can't think there would be too many Mabel PATTERSONs born about 1906 in Brooklyn. In England we have the GRO and can obtain Birth Certificates very easily online. I need to see if this Mabel has no father registered on her birth certificate. I then need to know if it's possible to obtain marriage certificates and/or death certificates. I apologies for my lack of knowledge of the registration system in the US.
