    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: wkirnan88 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/16379.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My first suggestion - go to Mapquest.com and enter their address - 1508 W 1st St Brooklyn NY - so that you get a general idea of where they were located in Brooklyn. Second, go to http://dioceseofbrooklyn.org/parish_search.aspx and enter the address again. It won't show the location of the residence, but it will show all current Catholic churches in the area. Note the 2 or 3 closest churches. Third, go to http://mysite.verizon.net/timdesmond/files/churches.htm, and note the dates of the individual churches openings to verify they were active at the time in which you are interested. Also, you should scan the churches that have closed (dates noted) to see where they were located. Please note that St. Athanasius, where your father was baptized, the closest church to this address, did not open until 1913. The next closest church, Sts. Simon and Jude opened in 1897, and St. Brendan's opened in 1907. As a side note, several censuses listed your grandmother as "Catherine B.". The "Catherine" might just be the way the census taker spelled her name but I would look more closely towards the middle initial "B.", versus "V.". Also, since your grandfather was listed as a student at Holy Cross College on his WWI draft card in 1918 I would look towards Worcester, Mass as a possible location of their marriage. He might have married at, or after graduation, which probably was in 1920, since he was born in May, 1899. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
