    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BobNY Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/15561.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ellen, According to Leslie Corn in an article for the NYG&B in 1999: "If you're researching a marriage that took place between 1908 and 1937 in New York City, you can now search for two types of marriage records that were simultaneously filed only during those years: - Marriage certificates issued by the New York City Department of Health - Marriage licenses issues by the City Clerk's Offices in New York City boroughs NYC Municipal Archives houses the microfilms of the Department of Health's marriage indexes and certificates, as well as the recently accessioned and microfilmed indexes and marriage licenses issued by the City Clerk's Offices from 1908-1929 for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Richmond, and 1914-1929 for the Bronx. " Now for the bad news. Ordering by mail involves certain restrictions. As of thr writing of the article, NYC Municipal Archives staff will search for Department of Health marriage certificates when you don't know the exact year or borough, but they will only search for City Clerk's marriage licenses if you provide the month and year of the marriage, and the borough where the bride resided. ================================= I really think your best bet is what I suggested earler, Church of the Transfiguration. You seemed to brush that off as an Italian parish. I am not sure where you got that idea. A quick look at the names of the pastors and the curates in the late 19th and early 20th centuries shows a preponderance of Irish names and no Italian names at all. Transfiguration in Manhattan may have been Italian, since it sits in an area that was once part of Little Italy, although the Irish had it first as part of the Bloody Sixth Ward and now it is a Chinese neighborhood.
