This is a very strange family situation that I'm looking into. When my dad (Nicholas/Anthony) was born June 1938), he and his mother (Virginia) lived in Long Island City with her father Carmine and step mother Jennie/Gennesia. I do not have anything concrete about Virginia's biological mother. I can say that she died some time after her third child was born 1920 and 1927 when Carmine and Jennie's first child was born. When my dad was two, Virginia gave him up and split. Carmine and Virginia adopted him. Virginia's siblings and other family members are not cooperative in helping my dad out in finding what happened to his mom, Virginia. They just don't talk about it. Carmine died in Brooklyn in March, 1978. Nothing was written about this surviving daughter. I don't even know if she, herself, was alive in 1978. My dad is now 76 and is at a point in his life where he'd really like to know what became of Virginia. The very last piece of documentation concerning Virginia that I have is the 1940 federal census. She was 20 and working as a waitress in Long Island City. Soon after this, she departed without looking back. Thank you so very much for your help and suggestion.
