I believe she had 3 brothers Charles, August and George Freick, they were listed on the census - her married name was Chickas - however it came up on the census as Checkar. I would like to connect with any living relatives who may have photos of my Grandmother and her family. My Dad doesn't have any - we would like to add them to our Family Scrapbook and also want to find out when she died, where she was buried - I'm planning a visit to New York this summer and would like to visit her grave and meet my extended cousins, I'm sure they are out there somewhere. Charles HALL was born ca. 1876, and died March 15, 1948 in Brooklyn. His wife, Carolina (BECHTLUFT) was born ca. 1887, and died between 1906-1908. I've seen different dates regarding when Carolina died, with one source stating she died in childbirth with her daughter, my great-grandmother, Edna Mae (HALL) Osmunson Maloney, born July 19, 1906 in Brooklyn, and died Oct. 25, 1975 also in Brooklyn. Any information is greatly appreciated, as I have not been able to find much information on this side of the family past Charles & Carolina. Thank you! I plan to try and get the microfilm myself to see what information it yields. Here is the procedure from the NY State Archives website: Research Tip #19 Almshouse and Poorhouse Census The Archives has census records of inmates in almshouses and poorhouses for the period 1875-1921 (series A1978). Census forms provide information on individual inmates' personal, family, and economic history. The records are arranged alphabetically by name of county or city institution, then chronologically by date of census or inmate admission date. Although the census records generally span the period from 1875 to 1921, some institutions are not documented for the entire time period. There is no inmate name index. Almshouse and Poorhouse Census records are available for free to New Yorkers at Ancestry.com New York. The records are also available on self-service microfilm in the research room or through inter-library loan. An online microfilm roll list is available.
