In fact, a marriage certificate I sent for several weeks ended up not being who I hope it would be. In regard to the LDS getting slammed - I'm sure they are but I have to say they are doing a wonderful job of responding to request. I faxed one request 3 weeks ago and emailed a request (2 certificates) two days later. I received both in 7 to 10 days. I'm sure Family History Library has scheduled additional volunteers to work. Good luck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.

I wish I lived in the NYC area where most of my research seems to be. I used to borrow alot of films but when they hit $5/film fee, it started to become a bit pricey & at $7.50/film cost of gas to get to my FHC, I can't borrow films that often any more much less 5 films. I'd do that if I were sure this is the marriage I need. However, I've 5 possibilities and I know from discussions on a couple of Yahoo genealogy groups I'm in that the LDS is getting slammed with requests. It's be unreasonable/unfair of me to take advantage of the service for 5 "maybe" marriages. And, in the process, I'd be slowing down someone else's receipt of a copy of a doc that they were sure of. I thought about borrowing the fims but @ $7.50 each & the distance = $$ gas to my FHC, doing it myself isn't affordable. With FHC's usually having on hand the films for the area they service, I'm hoping someone who regularly goes the Brooklyn FHC or to one of the 7 NYC area FHC's can do the look-up. My results came from the NYC vitals posted to the Italian Genealogy Group site via the super search engine at Steve Morse One Step. What I need is for someone with access to that referenced FHL film to do a look-up in the film & see if the Peter Ward listed in that marriage had parents Hugh & Bridget Ward and if that Peter's occupation at marriage was listed as "plasterer". Only a Peter fitting those parameters will be my Peter. Do you have access to the film and can do a look-up? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm hoping someone with access to FHL 1613369 can look for the marriage listed & let me know if the Peter WARD FHL 1613369 matches the Peter WARD I'm looking for. My Peter WARD will have parents named as Hugh Ward & Bridget WARD nee unknown to me. His occupation as of the 1910 census in Manhattan was listed as "Plasterer". MURPHY, Anna 26 Apr 1911 Cert #4485 Kings FHL 1613369 Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If it's not time critical, you mentioned the cost being prohibitive. The LDS now has free copies via e-mail. When you provide the same details you did in your original post, they will e-mail a copy of the certificate directly to you, free of charge. HTH.
