There is someone on this board (and other boards including NY county) who has just been performing EXTRAORDINARY acts of kindness in doing lookups/research for people. Just extraordinary. Goes by the name of "ziggysprints". Also other people may have access to FHL films that can help but cannot look if they don't have a name. Just a thought. Good luck in your search. It was almost too much to hope for. Thank you also for the link to the Brooklyn genealogy website; I saw mention of the website for the first time yesterday in a "Google" search. The site may be just what a person living a distance from the NY metropolitan area needs in pursuing research on the areas where his/her ancestors arrived and resided. Again, thank you very much! Author: famhistresearcher Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/15479.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I could not find S. Young. He would have had to have taken over sometime after 1897 because Alva Pearsall is listed in the 1897 Directory. You can find Alva Pearsall in the 1878 (615 Fulton h 9 Hanson Pl), 1879-80, and 1897 (597 Fulton) Directories here: http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/Directory/index.html Ancestry has him in the 1888, 1889 Directory at 597 Fulton (Location 1) and 142 6th Ave (Location 2). You can also find Horace M. Ollivier in the 1879-80 (330 Fulton) and 1897-98 (466 5th Ave, Brooklyn)(also says "Ollivier and Co.) Directories at that same site. I could not find him in the 1878 Directory at that site. Ancestry has him in the 1888, 1889 Directory at 455 5th Ave. I do not know if that address may be a transcription error or not. I do not have access today to any later directories which would help to put an "end" to the time frame. Good luck. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bat1933 Surnames: Terhune, Van Sycklyn, Frelinghuysen, Van Voorhees, Wyckoff Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/15481.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The general concensus is that Albert Albertszen TerHeunen came from Huinen in the Province of Gelderland. However, that is not written in stone. On page 77 of our book: "...Since his family were 'lintwevers' (ribbon-weavers), one would expect to find them in a more densely populated area to better market their merchandise." I would be most interested in learning more of your Terhunes in Limburg... Family lore does, indeed, indicate that our Terhunes were Huguenots...but, unfortunately, validation has yet to be found in support. 1. [NYKINGS] Early Dutch Family Ties - new book available
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bat1933 Surnames: Terhune, Van Sycklyn, Frelinghuysen, Van Voorhees, Wyckoff Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/15481/mb.ashx Message Board Post: EARLY DUTCH FAMILY TIES Terhune - Van Sycklyn - Frelinghuysen and Others This work is the product of many years of genealogy research, presenting major corrections to Terhune, Van Voorhees and Wyckoff genealogies, as well as additions to the early Terhunes of Gravesend and Flatlands It is a compendium of three disparate, yet related topics. Terhune Genealogy - 1637 to 1850 Dutch Colony History - 1624 to 1710 Reformed Dutch Church History - 1628 to 1770 DID YOU KNOW? The Dutch revolted in 1689 (Leisler Rebellion) against the British; and ruled the colony for two years...establishing democratic representation...the FIRST American revolution???? Many Dutch colonists hated their Domines, who supported Britain in the 1689 revolt, and did not baptize their children in the church... Jan Terhune, son of the immigrant surveyed and mapped Western Long Island in 1674... The Reformed Dutch Church was in turmoil for 70 years over Domine Frelinghuysen and home rule... Lord Cornwall, the British governor of New York in 1700 to 1708 was a transvestite and often wore women's clothing in public... The Dutch colony was ruled by a company, not the Netherlands government... Peter Minuet, second colony governor, also started the Swedish colony in 1637... Eva Terhune married Domine Frelinghuysen and their progeny became famous generals and politicians in the 19th Century and beyond... Eva Terhune, wife of Domine Frelinghuysen, was the daughter of Jan Albertse Terhune and his second wife, Margrietje Van Sicklen , and she did NOT marry at age 12 or 13... Roelof Janse Terhune's wife was Marike Van Voorhees, NOT Marike Wyckoff. He was the son of Jan Albertse Terhune and his first wife, Annetje Roelofse Schenck. === It is fully sourced and supplemented with 18 pages of detailed endnotes. 133 pages with maps, illustrations and index $15.00 plus shipping cost of $4.75 E-mail: Barbara Terhune oldbat@embarqmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
