Bob, There were two Kings County facilities: Long Island State Hospital and its annex or branch, Long Island State Hospital at Kings Park. In 1916, Long Island State Hospital at Kings Park was renamed Kings Park State Hospital and, later still, to Kings Park Psychiatric Center. In case it is Kings Park Psychiatric Center, and not Kingsboro Psychiatric Center, that you would want to contact, then ... Kings Park Psychiatric Center and Central Islip Psychiatric Center were consolidated and relocated to the Pilgrim campus in the Fall of 1996. The following Fall, those facilities were merged into Pilgrim Psychiatric Center under one name. Thus, the records from Kings Park Psychiatric Center, as well as from Central Islip Psychiatric Center, may be at: Pilgrim Psychiatric Center 998 Crooked Hill Road Brentwood, NY 11717-1087 Tel: 631/761-3500 Fax: 631/761-2600 eMail: pilgriminfo@omh.state.ny.us http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/facilities/pgpc/facility.htm I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Middletown Times Herald Newspaper, Wednesday, May 11, 1949 pg 3 Middletown, Port Residents To Share in $60,000 Estate Brooklyn -- Bernard McGinn of PO Box 512, Middletown, NY, will share in an estate valued at $806,788 according to a transfer tax appraisal report filed in Kings County Surrogate Court today. The estate was left by the Middletown man's distant cousin, the late Carrie Herbs of 1127 49th Street, Brooklyn, who died intestate at the age of seventy-eight on June seventh, 1947. According to court officials the Middletown man will receive a one seventeenth share of the residue of estate. -Also receiving similar amounts are Dorothy B. Sells and Catherine B. Ducey of forty-four Orange Street, Frank Markle, twenty-eight Mechanic Street, Elizabeth Luckey, seventeen Union Street, Bernard Markle, five Hight Street, all Port Jervis and Caroline Woolsey, Glen Spey. The Bernard McGinn mentioned is my Great Grandfather. His mother was Caroline "Carrie" Markle McGinn O'Neil. The others seem to all be children of Carrie's siblings. Now Carrie's parents were Morris Markley b 1824 Wurtemburg, Germany and Catherine Carter b 1828 Ireland. I am trying to figure out which would be related to Carrie Herbs and how. Going by ages, Carrie Herbs would have been born abt 1869, and could be a cousin of Bernard's mother Carrie. But through which parent? Does anyone recognize any of these names? Is anyone related to Carrie Herbs? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm trying to find out if my distant relative is listed as an attendant in 1900 at Long island State Hospital. A person with the same name is listed and all the info, spelling of name, places of her birth and parents birth are the same for what I have. Does the Hospital still exist? Are records available for genealogy research? Any help appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Invite your mail contacts to join your friends list with Windows Live Spaces. In my opinion One World Tree information is all but useless. These trees were created by merging trees that mostly are unsourced. Where you say you see 20 user submitted trees probably at least half have been copied from each other. Using One World Tree or one of these user submittted trees as a source is no source at all. The people who put these trees together are what I call name gatherers and really don't want to learn about their ancestors. They just want to brag about having this data file with over 100,000 people. The only time I even look at these trees is when my ladder will no longer even reach the top of the brick wall let alone knock it down. Even then I am looking for clues and will not use their data unless I can validate it. In other words assume this data is incorrect unless you can prove otherwise. Daniel was in Brooklyn. In 1915, he was a baker with his brother, James, in Lowell, MA. By 1916 he was gone and found his way to Brooklyn, where it appears that his sister, Mary McMahon, was living. They also had a brother named Michael McMahon, but I don't know if he ended up in New York or not. James F. McMahon had two wives die young, and by 1920, he was a widower living in Lowell, MA. The 1922/23 city directory for Lowell says that James moved to New York, New York. I know his brother, Daniel, was in Brooklyn. I'm just trying to find James in New York after 1922. I am waiting to get copies of three death records: 1. Daniel McMahon: died Mar. 5, 1948 in Kings County, N.Y. at age 58 yrs., born ca. 1890. 2. James F. McMahon: died March 28, 1938 in Kings County at age 58 yrs., born ca. 1880. 3. Daniel McMahon: born Apr. 10, 1889; d. Aug., 1966; last residence was Brooklyn, Kings, N.Y. I have been unable to locate James F. McMahon yet in NYC using city directories and the 1930 census. His daughter, Mary McMahon, married William Devaney in ca. 1927, according to census records. In the 1930 census, they were living at 32 McDonough Sterrt in Brooklyn, Kings , N.Y. Mary was born Sept. 28, 1908, daughter of James F. McMahon, and Delia Neylon, both of County Clare, Ireland. They were living in Hicksville, Nassau, N.Y. when Mary died in Sept., 1968. Siblings of Mary E. ( McMahon ) Devaney were: James J. ( b.c. 1905 ), John T. ( b.c. 1907 ), Margaret ( b.c. 1911 ), and Joseph ( b. 1915 ). I assume that James F. McMahon took all of his children to New York, New York, when he sold his house and bakery business and moved from Lowell, MA., where his children were born, to NYC. I am trying to find James F. McMahon in Brooklyn or the NYC area, or as a long shot, Long Island in N.Y. I am searching for him in the 1930 census, but so far have been unable to locate him and his children there. Any help would be very much appreciated. One further thing..I found the parents of James F. McMahon in the 1901 census in Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland, and Catherine Kelley was born ca. 1858. The siblings of James F. McMahon in that census were: Michael ( b.c. 1882 ), Margaret ( b.c. 1884 ), Mary ( b.c. 1886 ), Daniel ( b.c. 1888 ), Susan ( b.c. 1892 ), Bridget ( b.c. 1896 ), and Thomas ( b.c. 1900 ): all children of Daniel McMahon ( b.c. 1848 ) and Catherine ( Kelley ) ( b.c. 1858 ). Daniel was a baker by profession. Jean Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
