It seems Louisa Clayton CALDWELL and her husband Frank Eddy CALDWELL separated at some point between 1910 and 1920 and he ran off with a Swedish woman he met whilst working in Colorado. She continued to refer to herself as married and he claimed to be married to his new girlfriend. Can anyone help me find any possible divorce records for Louisa or (possibly bigamous) marriage records for Frank? She was born and raised in Brooklyn at a house at 82 Willow Street and lived after her marriage at 119 Henry Street. He went to Utah with his new "wife". Sorry I meant 1844? not 1944, and 18 20s not 1920s for the Thomas JENKINS in Brooklyn information.

Hi ctaravel At 01:23 PM 10/6/2008, you wrote: >Can't find my ggm KAREN AAMOT. The receptionist who answered said >she wasn't there. She isn't on the online lists, possible died after >1948. There are other burials and a stone. Anyone know of someone >to take photographs, would be willing to pay expenses. Go to the wonderful Find A Grave web site: http://www.findagrave.com/ and ask for a volunteer to take the pictures for you. I have been well served with NO expenses by volunteers. Just remember, most of these folks are cemetery buffs, not necessarily genealogy oriented. So don't do what I did. Do NOT forget to politely ask the volunteer for a picture of the stone AND a close up of any inscriptions. When I got my first "volunteer" pictures, I could see that there was writing, but I couldn't read it. I had to embarrass myself and ask my volunteer to make another trip. Hope this helps, Joe
In cleaning out some genealogy "stuff", I ran across this and thought some of you might enjoy it. Amazing how we "take things for granted" as we read the census and never really think of what went on "in those days." Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. THE CENSUS TAKER It was the first day of census, and all through the land; The pollster was ready...a black book in hand. He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride; His book and some quills were tucked close by his side. A long winding ride down a road barely there; Toward the smell of fresh bread wafting, up through the air. The woman was tired, with lines on her face; And wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place. She gave him some water...as they sat at the table; And she answered his questions...the best she was able. He asked of her children...Yes, she had quite a few; The oldest was twenty, the youngest not two. She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red; His sister, she whispered, was napping in bed. She noted each person who lived there with pride; And she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside. He noted the sex, the color, the age... The marks from the quill soon filled up the page. At the number of children, she nodded her head; And saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead. The places of birth she "never forgot"; Was it Kanssas? or Utah? or Oregon...or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear; But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here. They spoke of employment, of schooling and such; They could read some...and write some...though really not much. When the questions were answered, his job there was done; So he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun. We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear; "May God bless you all for another ten years." Now picture a time warp...it's now you and me; As we search for the people on our family tree. We squint at the census and scroll down so slow; As we search for that entry from long, long ago. Could they only imagine on that long ago day; That the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew, would they wonder at the yearning we feel; And the searching that makes them so increasingly real. We can hear if we listen the words they impart; Through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart. AUTHOR UNKNOWN
I am looking for Death and grave of Thomas Jenkins who came to Brooklyn NY around 1800. Married Katherine Williams in 1820 , officiated by John Williams, Oliver St Baptist Church, I think he did in the last half of the 1920s after fathering two daughters, Eleanor who married Alex Bain in 1944 and Mary who married a Roorbach. Katherine Williams Jenkins lived in household of Alex and Eleanor Bain in 1850. The family moved to Nebraska City Neb. in the 1850's where Alexander was involved in Neb. Politics. thanks Glenn Dunavan. **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Try it out! Yes, Lynne and Ken Oakley, there is the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center: Creedmoor Psychiatric Center 80-45 Winchester Boulevard New York (Queens Village P.O.), NY 11427 Tel: 718/264-4000 Fax: 718/264-3627 eMail: CRPC_INFO@omh.state.ny.us http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/facilities/crpc/facility.htm Creedmoor is a name that goes back to the origins of the NRA: What is now a psychiatric hospital began as Creed's farm and then, in 1872, was renamed Creedmoor because it was referred to as Creed's Moor when purchased by the newly formed National Rifle Association (NRA) to be used for a rifle range, where for about two decades at the end of the 19th century it was the location of several major international rifle matches. Creedmoor range remained in use until the opening years of the 20th century, with shooting ceasing circa 1910. In 1908, Creedmoor State Hospital acquired the site, and in 1912 opened the Farm Colony of Brooklyn State Hospital with thirty-two patients. Today it is the site of the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center.
