He was an Episcopalian. I'm pretty sure her family was Catholic as some of the children were Baptised in the Catholic church in NY City. Anyway they got married in a Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. Have you been to the site of the tenement John Courtney their father owned and they were born in. It is at 50 Grand St. Manhattan, NY. There is a restaurant there now called Felix. Someone sent me a copy of the will where it was left to John Courtney Miles. My e-mail is Claire1120@aol.com. Did you know that a lawyer cheated them out of their inheritance? There was a court case about it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My mother is a Hunold herself. I would be happy to give you access to my online family tree but I'll need your direct email address. The notes pages for each family member contain a lot of information that may be useful for you. I actually spend a day once in Brooklyn trying to hunt down the church that Elizabeth married in and was disappointed to find it had been torn down to make way for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The records for St. Michael and the now closed St. Malachy should all be at St. Michael-St. Malachy. Assuming this is for one of your Spellman's, I would try St. Michael-St. Malachy first, since Our Lady of Loreto was founded as an Italian parish. 1. [NYKINGS] Bernard and Ellen Mathisen
    2. Erik Hov
    3. Hello. I tried to search for these once before ,but not much luck so I try again. My greatgreatgrandfather`s brother was named Ole Bernt Andreas Mathiesen and was born in Borgund/Ålesund ,møre og Romsdal County ,Norway 7 Nov 1871. He was son of Ole Mathias Christensen Skarbøvik (1833-1925) and Ivrine Olave Jensdatter Helle (1830-1915) I don`t know when Ole Bernt Andreas went to US ,but he did ,and took the name Bernard Mathison in US. He lived in Brooklyn(??) and was married to a Ellen Olson ,born dec 1869 in Sweden. In 1900 they lived in New York City ,Kings County ,NY and had a daughter Alice Sofie ,born in Brooklyn 4 Mar ,christened 20 Mar 1900. They lived at address 73 Clermont Ave in Brooklyn? 1900 ,and Bernard died in Brooklyn 4 May 1901. Bernard is listed as being born in dec 1870 in the 1900 census ,but it has to be the one I`m looking for. What my greatgrandmother`s sister told me was that "Bernt" emigrated to US was married to Ellen from Sweden ,and that Bernt died quite early and Ellen returned to Sweden with the children.". My problem is that I don`t know where in Sweden Ellen was from or her parents. Wonder if anyone can help me find the marriage of Bernard Mathisen/Mathison/Mathiesen/Mathieson etc and Ellen Olson/Olsson/Olsen etc in New York?? Thanks in advance for any help. Erik in Norway
