We that do genealogy know about that issue! LOL No, never have found an obit unfortunately. Neat that your grandfather and Artie were friends and that he thought enough of him to mention him to you. Your grandpa sure lived to a ripe old age. I believe you can find my e-mail address on here to communicate offline. Your e-mail info is locked. Author: al11795 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/15672/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Italian Genealogical Group will meet on Saturday, May 9th at 10:30 AM at the Bethpage Public Library, 50 Powell Ave., Bethpage, Long Island, NY. The meeting will feature a lecture by Mr. Leo Cimini, President of the Sandminers Monument, Inc. Mr. Cimini will inform us about the labor done by early Italian immigrants who mined and transported sand and gravel from the Port Washington area to New York City. The fruits of their labor created 90% of the concrete used for construction in New York City. There is no admission charge for this lecture, and guests are welcome. The IGG meets the second Saturday of every month with free lectures and discussions of interest to genealogists and lovers of Italian culture and history. Visit our website, www.italiangen.org, to learn more about our group and consult our FREE databases of New York City birth, death and naturalization records. Author: sigalasm2005 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.kings/15201.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Carol, Hello. Did you ever get any info on the murder of Arthur Huttick? My grandfather George Sigalas passed away in 2004 at the age of '97. He lived in Hell's Kitchen from 1908-1944. I took down his autobiography, and he mentioned his friend "Artie Huddock"--his spelling. He wrote: "Artie Huddock was the Golden Glove light heavyweight champion of 1930(?)[the questionmark was Grandpa's] He got stabbed to death by two sailors. He tried to help a young girl being abused by the sailors. He had just started fighting pro." I haven't found any boxer by the name of Huddock...I'm assuming it's the same murdered boxer. Although it sounds as if Arthur was more established than Grandpa remembered. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
