Anyway...whenever Manhattan is included in the index and if you still can't find Wm FURFEY, in the 1875 Manhattan directory the OC reader found a Matthew Kelly, laborer, residing in the rear of 224 W 16th. For the 1876 Manhattan directory the reader found a Frederick Stootz, occupation pianos and a John Hughes, laborer, both residing in the rear of 224 W 16th. Matthew Kelly was also still there in the 1876 directory. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I believe they split up after that. In 1920, Annie is on the Bronx census with her father John T. Kelly. Annie has the last name of Gale. so on the 1915, she might be under Annie Kelly, Annie Gale, or Annie Benham. She was born in Canada in 1877 although she usually gave her age as younger such as 1882 on the 1920 census and 1889 on the 1930 census. I would appreciate any help finding Annie in 1915. Could be Bronx I suppose although I doubt it. Thanks so very much Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My Grandfather Leroy Carlson is married to "Private". I'm sure these are my grandparents because Leroy's "private" wife's parents are said to be Elario Lopez and Lily Atencio-My grandmother/Leroy's wife's name is Nadine Lopez and that seems like too much of a coincidence. Nevertheless it is unvalidated. Leroy's parents are stated as George Carlson and Mabel (No last name). George Carlson is noted to be from Sweden and Mabel is Irish or Swedish. Would you be able to find someone in the 1875 directory living close to the Furfey's at 224 W 16th - and then maybe I could find those people on the 1875 NY census and see if I could find William that way?? Their children were: Marianno, Leonard, Saverio (Edward), Salvatore, Isador and I found one census with the name of Donald. Giovanni owned an Italian restaurant in Brooklyn in the early 1900s=1930s. I know he also had a sister Isabella who married a Dangelo and Ingoglia. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Have found these posts fascinating! How did you get to see the original parish register with parents' names, etc.? I have found it difficult, if not impossible, to get certificates from individual parishes in the New York Archdiocese, let alone access to the original records (or even a copy of them). Also, a friend of mine has been repeatedly denied access to dispensation records (these would not be included in the book mentioned in this thread as they were many years later). Pat

We're missing one of my great-grandmother's siblings, George Swenson. We thought he died as a child but we uncovered an article in the Eagle stating he was arrested in 1912 for selling heroin! We assume he died not soon after these articles were published and would really like to fill in this missing piece. I've tried all the typical death record indexes and sites and have had no luck. I'm hoping a court file may have more information on where he was imprisoned (maybe he died outside NYC) or information if he died in the NYC jail system. He is not buried in the family plot either. If anyone ever goes into the criminal court archives, I'll gladly pay the cost of copies, etc. if they exist. Thanks to all.
