If you want to wait, I'm creating a web-page with instructions on how to order B/M/D and death certs from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. They only charge $2. ($4. minimum) vs the $15. or more that the NYC archives charges. I should have this web-page ready by later this evening or tomorrow at the latest. I'll make a post when it's up and running. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [NYKINGS] LOOKING FOR DECENDENTS OF JERRY AND JENNY TOLSON From: "[1][email protected]" <[2][email protected]> Date: Wed, January 25, 2012 1:41 pm To: <[3][email protected]> This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Check out the Historical Records Survey for New York City Lutheran Churches. [1]http://www.nycnuts.net/genealogy/church/wpa_lutheran/ Within this work you will find a historical sketch of the Lutheran denomination, background on its organization and record system, as well as a description of the available records for each of the individual churches that then (1940), or at one time, had been located within one of the five boroughs of New York City. If you know the name of a specific church, check the "index of churches" for that entry; if you are interested in a specific minister, check the "index of ministers"; if you are unsure what church you ancestor might have attended, compare the address of your ancestor with churches found in the "Street Location Index." You may also want to consult the "Chronological Index by Borough" to check what churches existed at the time of your ancestors. And if youâre interested in other denominations, check out the other Historical Records Surveys. References 1. http://www.nycnuts.net/genealogy/church/wpa_lutheran

Ward 21 encompasses all streets from the East River west on 26th St to 6th Ave, north on 6th Ave to 40th St, and east on 40th St back to the East River. Perhaps someone can nail down the 5th ED for you. But going by the 21st Ward I narrowed down that area to possibly 3 RC churches that were in that area at that time. They were/are 1) Ch of St. Francis of Assisi, 135 West 31st St, New York, NY 10001- (212)736-8500. 2) Ch of St. Stephen & Our Lady of the Scapular, 142 East 29th St.,New York, NY 10016 - (212)683-1675 3) Ch of St. Gabriel, which was located on East 37th St., but was demolished in 1939 to make way for the Queen's Mid-town Tunnel. You can contact the Archdiocese of New York (212)371-1000, and find where those records are now kept. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
