If you can't find the 2nd twin by name, this might be an option. So if the first twin's cert # was 5 for example, try searching for certificates 4 & 6 from the same year & county since they likely were issued at the same time. Good luck! I have baptismal cert for Mose from Holy Rosary in Jersey City that has a line for place of birth. Jersey City is typed there. Then by chance last week, I found a NYC birth index entry on ancestry.com for Tommaso. Same date of birth, only index says Brooklyn. I ordered Tommaso's birth cert the other day from NYC archives. The birth date for both is Oct. 3, 1893. Your theory is interesting. I guess we will have to wait and see. I have never seen a baptismal cert with a place of birth. Based on what you have written so far, I would not draw the conclusion that you have 2 separate births in two different states on the same day. What is more likely is what happened in the case of one of my uncles. His Protestant father was the informant for the birth cert and gave as the child's forename a family name that is fairly unusual. His Catholic mother, when presenting him for baptism, in order to satisfy what she thought was Church practice at the time (if not Canon Law), provided the child with 2 saints' names which is what went on the baptismal certificate. The result would be what you apparently see now. Two certificates with two different names, for supposedly 2 children born on the same day to the same parents. Except there was only one birth. Do you have definite proof that the second child was born in NJ, or just that he was baptized there? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I assume the only document indicating place of birth is the birth cert for one of the twins. I have never seen a baptismal record indicating place of birth, only place of baptism. It is not unusual to be born in one location and baptized in another. I was born in NYC , but not baptized in NYC; it happens more often than you might think.
