I don't know a whole lot about Maria A or Mary Anna Haslach. She was my gggrandmother and married to Jacob Phillip Zimmer in 1866/67. I think her parents were Thomas Haslach and Angeline Raber. If you find a connection, I would love to know and will do the same for you. These people all had to come from about the same places in Germany. Take care. Kim, I found the following in Brooklyn Daily Eagle (October 10, 1889, page 5): "NOWLAN-On October 10, of apoplexy, JOHN NOWLAN, aged 47 years. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service from his late residence, 476 1/2 Fulton st, on Saturday, 12th at 2 P.M." http://eagle.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/Default/Skins/BEagle/Client.asp?Skin=BEagle Also found a John Nolan buried in Greenwood Cemetery: NOLAN, JOHN burial date 1889-10-12, lot 26814, section 200. http://www.green-wood.com/burial_results/index.php?action=R&spage=2 Not uncommon for names in the BDE to be spelled "differently" than we are used to seeing. That is a wonderful site. Have you searched for the last name using the wildcard symbol? I would try that as well as the "sounds like" function using a Z or H as you mentioned. That may yield some additional results. --- On Sat, 2/18/12, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: [NYKINGS] Missing ? Let me start with my lineage and work from there. Grandparents - James McDonald aka William McAllister married Aurore Leblanc Great Grandparents......Henry McAllister married Mary Ann Downs (1st), Maggie (Margaret) McDonald (2nd) Henry has five children with Mary Ann William, Sally, Mary Margaret, Charles, Thomas (all births took place between 1888 and 1894 in Brooklyn), forgot the order. Mary Ann died in 1895, Charles and Thomas died as infants, William supposedly went to live with relatives (McDonald) according to a note he wrote for some kind of benefits or a name change back in 20's/30's. 1900 census shows Mary and Margaret in St. Francis of Assisi Orphanage in Brooklyn 1900 census shows Henry and Sally living with a Maggie McDonald (she is listed as married and head of household, but no husband listed). 1910 census shows all the children with an Aunt .....Katherine Southam...im assuming this is Mary Ann's sister Kate Downs 1920 census shows the girls with a Cousin....Samuel Simms...not sure where this fits, William was married in 1918. 1920 census shows Henry married to a Maggie, assuming McDonald...child listed James J. McDonald...matching info in 1900 census. They also had 2 children...Henry and Helen...born 1908 and 1911 Sally ended up marrying a Native American Chief in VA...died in 1977, Mary married a James J. McCormick....died in 1956 (am in contact with a McCormick cousin I met about 2 years ago) long story, Margaret died I think about 1958, William died about 1959. Henry died 1924. Him and Maggie are buried together in Calvary. I have the burial info on all of them. William (GF) was baptized in St. Mary Star of the Sea. I do have pics on all the children also have a pic of Mary Ann, a pic of Henry with the children...assuming it was shortly after the funeral and a pic of a man and wife and on the back it has a signature which looks like C.B. McAllister, Mandan, ND. With that pic was a copy of the same pic stating "this was your Grandfather "Curly Bill". We are assuming this was addressed to Margaret since it was found in her things when she passed. Now for the tricky part, the pic is on a photography studio card with the address, matching the photographer and address..they were in business 1892 - 1894. We think we found the Great Great Grandparents in New Brunswick....William McAllister and Mary Mccarron. Hints so far that we are going off of.... William could be Curly Bill, no wife name on the pic (of course) Henry was one of the children born about same estimated date. Any docs show birth in Maine or Canada. Could it be they got confused with New Brunswick the country and New Brunswick, Maine? Charles Bernard (C B McAllister) was one of their children..who ended up in....you guessed it...Mandan, ND But.... William died about 1888 and Mary died in 1890....so how could the pic been taken between 1892-1894? To date have not located a marriage record for Henry and Mary Ann and any document providing info of Henry's parents. Was hoping they got married at Star of the Sea...no record found. So no real solid evidence yet, just assumption and elimination. If anyone can assist or guide me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. She was sent there at the "ripe old age" of 67, her widowed daughter (raising 4 children) admitted her. Does anyone know where an "inmate" at this home would have been buried?
