Charles was born in Kings County, NY. I didn't add that. My apologies. I thought I had. His mother Laura Ida Booth Norman lived there throughout most of her active Vaudeville life and was living there in 1924 in the apartments of the National Vaudeville Actors Club.

Found the following in the 1904-05 Trow's Street and Avenue directory, page 1344: Tessier Augustine, wid of Hyacinth D., h. 240 W 15th. She is not in the 1909 city directory but there is: Tessier Edwd M., real estate, h. 2741 Creston av. I am not related. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Seeking information from Trow's City Directory for 1920-1926 on Laura Ida Norman and Charles and Bonnie Asburn (stage name Levine). Would anyone be able to look up this information for me? Laura Ida Norman's maiden name was Booth. She was married to Isaac Driver, another actor, who went by the name of Art Norman. Thank you for any help. Carol Hicks

Quite frankly, the indexes on germangenealogygroup/italiangen came about much too late to be of much use to me in my personal research except for the odd stray name. (I did the bulk of my research sitting at Chambers street -- talk about doing it the 'old way'!) However, I do use the sites to help out other folks when I am at my local FHC. I try to show folks as many tools as possible and tell them to always, always, double and triple check their own work as well as the source info. Some listen, some don't. BTW, a friend of mine found an error on the FHL film numbers on the Stevemorse site a year or two ago. She sent them an e-mail and received a quick and courteous response as well as a prompt fix on the website. Margaret Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I checked a 1926 marriage and it gave me a film number for 1917. Sometimes doing it the old way may be a better option Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (BTW, if you have not been using the site to determine where to start searching the 1940 fed census for your ancestors, then, as Ancestry might exclaim "You're missing out!") http://stevemorse.org/ If you scroll down the page to the folder "Births, deaths, and other vital records" you will see various sub-folders, including NYC birth, brides, grooms, death indexes etc. If you use these search forms, it will search the Italiangen website for you and in many cases it will provide not only the cert numbers and other relevant info but it will also provide the FHL film numbers on which you will find the certs. On rare occasions, there may be errors so it is always wise to double-check the FHL catalogue youself. (Personally, I always use the old FHL catalogue. BTW, you can still easily reach the old familysearch site by googling "classic.familysearch") In addition to the above tools, Stevemorse also offers a direct route to find FHL film numbers for NYC. http://stevemorse.org/vital/filmnotes.html Margaret Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
