Wish I had more to give you, but all I had was what was listed in my stepgrandfather's military papers from WWII.? She was listed as living at 185 Mechanics Street in Watertown at the time of his death in 1945.? His last name was Barrett and I don't know if her maiden name was Barrett or something else as the father is listed as unknown.? She may have been a student at Alfred back in the 1920's but their records didn't show anyone with her name(s).? I have no idea who the Covert male is that she married, but supposedly she had more children, rumored as one daughter and possibly two sons.? Her first son, my stepgrandfather was born in Nov. 1921 so I would say she may have been born about the turn of the century.? Sorry I don't have more, been trying to find her for awhile now but don't have census access.? Sons name was Andrew James Barrett.? Hi Vicki, I have been searching since 7am and finally found all the information that you'll need. I had typed it all up and was ready to send and my son turned the computer off....ha, kids, gotta love them! Anywho, Myrtle's maiden name was Jardin. She was shot a couple years after the children were adopted, their father's name was Charles Barrett and he moved out of the area after their seperation. I am not positive at this time if she passed away from the shooting, but it seemed evident that she would even after a blood transfusion by her mother, this was in 1928. Her new fiance, Carl Massey turned himself in for shooting her after she gave him his engagement ring back. When she was shot she was a waitress of Alexandria Bay. Her father was Andrew Jardin, who lived 2 miles from Dexter. article about shooting: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Newspapers%20Disk3/Watertown%20Times/Watertown%20NY%20Daily%20Times%201928.pdf/Newspaper%20Watertown%20NY%20Daily%20Times%201928%20b%20-%201212.PDF#xml=http://www.fultonhistory.com/dtSearch/dtisapi6.dll?cmd=getpdfhits&u=408b681f&DocId=5985122&Index=Z%3a%2fFulton%20Historical&HitCount=6&hits=c2+ca+2f1+2fc+794+798+&SearchForm=c%3a%5cinetpub%5cwwwroot%5cFulton%5fNew%5fform%2ehtml&.pdf So it seems that she did live. Harold age 13. Nellie was a machine operator at a bag mill, Lena worked in a hotel and Harold in the bag mill. They lived on Bradley Street. In the 1910 census they are living in Canton, St Lawrence County: William A. Jardin 29 b. Canada French married for 11 years NA in 1899. Laborer Odd Jobs Nellie M. age 27 b. NY 4/4 children Nelson age 11 (looks like) Murton M. daughter age 9 Lena P. age 6 William H. son age 4 I noticed in 1920 there was a 19 year old Charles Barrett living in Jefferson County, town Wilna, he was born in PA and wasn't in Jefferson County Previously. there wasn't much information on there besides that as he was a boarder. William Jardin ended his life in 1946: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Process%20small/Newspapers/Oswego%20Palladium/Oswego%20Palladium%20Jan-March%201946%20pdf/Newspaper%20%20Oswego%20Palladium%20Jan-March%201946%20-%200422.pdf#xml=http://www.fultonhistory.com/dtSearch/dtisapi6.dll?cmd=getpdfhits&u=ffffffffce12f2d2&DocId=458158&Index=Z%3a%2fFulton%20Historical&HitCount=2&hits=1e9+1ea+&SearchForm=c%3a%5cinetpub%5cwwwroot%5cFulton%5fNew%5fform%2ehtml&.pdf another article that's much easier to read about the same, he had remarried, the other children were half siblings to Myrtle: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Process%20small/Byard%20Collection%20scrapBooks/Newspaper%20%28Byard%29%201946-47%20Book%201%20-%20-%200006.pdf#xml=http://www.fultonhistory.com/dtSearch/dtisapi6.dll?cmd=getpdfhits&u=f80140&DocId=1931&Index=Z%3a%2fFulton%20Historical&HitCount=2&hits=3a2+3a3+&SearchForm=c%3a%5cinetpub%5cwwwroot%5cFulton%5fNew%5fform%2ehtml&.pdf Nelson Jardin married a Woodley: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Newspaper%202/Canton%20NY%20St.%20Lawrence%20Plain%20Dealer/Canton%20NY%20St.%20Lawrence%20Plain%20Dealer%201947%20-%201949%20pdf/Newspaper%20Canton%20NY%20St.%20Lawrence%20Plain%20Dealer%201947%20-%201949%20-%200389.PDF#xml=http://www.fultonhistory.com/dtSearch/dtisapi6.dll?cmd=getpdfhits&u=ffffffffc66f405a&DocId=1973615&Index=Z%3a%2fFulton%20Historical&HitCount=2&hits=171+172+&SearchForm=c%3a%5cinetpub%5cwwwroot%5cFulton%5fNew%5fform%2ehtml&.pdf Lena's obituary: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Newspapers%20Disk3/Watertown%20Times/Watertown%20NY%20Daily%20Times%20Nov%201969%20Grayscale.pdf/Watertown%20NY%20Daily%20Times%20Nov%201969%20Grayscale%20-%200172.pdf#xml=http://www.fultonhistory.com/dtSearch/dtisapi6.dll?cmd=getpdfhits&u=aa15999&DocId=6610317&Index=Z%3a%2fFulton%20Historical&HitCount=2&hits=13aa+13ab+&SearchForm=c%3a%5cinetpub%5cwwwroot%5cFulton%5fNew%5fform%2ehtml&.pdf Nelson's 50th wedding anniversary: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Newspapers%20Disk3/Watertown%20Times/Watertown%20NY%20Daily%20Times%201968.pdf/Watertown%20NY%20Daily%20Times%201968%20a%20-%202258.pdf#xml=http://www.fultonhistory.com/dtSearch/dtisapi6.dll?cmd=getpdfhits&u=ffffffff8dc36224&DocId=5992669&Index=Z%3a%2fFulton%20Historical&HitCount=2&hits=84+85+&SearchForm=c%3a%5cinetpub%5cwwwroot%5cFulton%5fNew%5fform%2ehtml&.pdf I found the same Charles Berrett that I had found in 1920, in 1930 again in Wilna, Jefferson County, NY. Married with a son Charles M who was 4 years old. it says that Charles was a painter in a paper mill. Living on Riverside Drive. The one that I found in 1920 was the same one, and even had the same job. I'm not so sure this is the same one that would have been Andrew's father, but so far it is the only one that matches. You would think though, that with the shooting and the children being all over the newspapers that he would have fought to get his children if it had been the same one. In 1920 there was another Charles Barrett, who was 48 and widowed living in Watertown. He was the superintendant of the Paper Mill and was living as a boarder in the Brothers' household. i did find a Myrtle Barret living in 1930 with an uncle samuel s mapes in suffern, rockland county, ny. myrtle was 30 years old and was written as being single. Samuel was a Painter whose father was born in Massachusetts. I believe I found Andrew Jardin in the 1920 census living in Fulton, NY with wife, Eva (who is about 12 years younger) and son Charles who is only 7 months old. Andrew's job was in the paper mill and it says for citizenship PA in 1900. It has his age as 39 says he was born in Canada and his parents born in NY. (which is a very normal thing up north as people would cross the borders frequently). It was transcribed as Andrew Jenkin or Jenlin making it that much more difficult to find. >From looking through census' and such I believe his father to be Andrew Jardin living up north in 1880 census. If you'd like help looking up more, just let me know!
