Author: pata41 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.jefferson/12792.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Kathie & Don, For the most part (except for NYC) in NY state city & town clerks hold the records for those who die within their municipalities. If you know the town/city where the death occurred do a Google search for the clerk in that town; ie. "Ellisburg Town Clerk" If the person died in a village within a town, even one with a different name, the town clerk has the records, not the village clerk. The town/city clerks submit their records to the state. You can also order birth/death records from the NY State Dept. of Health. That takes quite a bit longer, though. The HD site is here: http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/ good luck, Pat Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
