    1. Re: [NYJEFFER] Important News - Parrish Cemetery located near Brownville (But in the Town of Pamelia) Jefferson County New York
    2. Hi NYJEFFER Listers I know that many of you do not live in Jefferson County NY and probably are not aware of the local News item regarding the Parrish Cemetery. This Cemetery is actually in the Town of Pamelia but close to the Town of Brownville. I want to make anyone who might have Ancestors in this Cemetery aware of this action by the Parrish Cemetery Association. I hope soon (weather permitting) to make a trip over to this Cemetery and see exactly what they are talking about. I also question if this Association is within their rights to take this action. I believe that they also have to contact the last known owner by certified mail. I am not sure exactly what the date of the first burial in this Cemetery is, but I do know that at one time (early 1800's) the Town of Brownville included (in whole or part of) the Town of Lyme, Town of Cape Vincent, Pamelia, Alexandria and Orleans. It covered a large area. Go to this URL and Read about the 60 Day Notice or the possible removal of the tombstone. http://www.wwnytv.net/index.php/2009/02/16/parrish-cemetery-might-remove-tombstones/ There is a List of the Stones involved on the URL so you might want to check to see if you have Ancestors buried there.
