Pat, Can you get us a name and address for the person responsible for the cemetery? In some places it is a county or township (town in NY State) official or board. I would suggest that rather than removing the stone, that they be buried face down on the grave site. I recall reading that is the best way to preserve the stone engravings form weathering. It also keeps the stone available to identify who is buried there for the "next 100 years". Other records may be lost or destroyed on purpose, as I was told was done in one Jefferson County cemetery. Hi Jay I am working on that. I tried calling last week to confirm the name of the person who heads the Association of this Cemetery. I have a name but want to see if it is up to date. I will continue checking that out tomorrow. I also want to visit the Cemetery and see the conditions that the tombstones are in. The exact danger they present to other stones being damaged and etc.. It is not that far from where I live now. However it continues to snow up here in Northern Upstate NY and not really the best time to go and check this out. I will be in touch Pat R
