    1. [NYJEFFER-L] Seeking Charles Edward Johnston, 1830's
    2. Gerald McInrue
    3. Good afternoon list members: I am seeking to locate my great grand parents. Charles Edward Johnston, born US, 1830’s, died unknown Married Elizabeth (Eliza) McInrue (McInroe or McEnrue) born 1841, Montague township, Lanark County, Upper Canada. Have been unable to locate where Charles and Elizabeth married, and where they lived and died and were buried. The only clue I have is that a son George Edward Johnston, 22, born US, date is unknown, son of Charles Edward Johnston and Eliza McInrue, marries Margaret Lane, 19, daughter of John Lane and Margaret Wilton, May 25, 1891, Perth, Ontario, Lanark County, Canada. On the marriage records it lists George as living in Montague township but being from Halifax, NY US There does not appear to be a Halifax community, county or township in New York state. The headstone for George Johnston has his birth year as 1874. This would mean that he was 17 in 1891 and not 22. As all those who are researching our family genealogy have hit a brick wall in locating Charles and Elizabeth it has come down to looking at various New York counties and townships in a close proximity to the birth place of Elizabeth McInrue. Montague Township in Lanark county is adjacent to Smiths Falls, Ontario approximately 30 miles north of Brockville, Ontario. To muddy the waters more for reasons unknown George adopts his mother’s maiden name in 1891 and becomes George Edward McInrue. Charles and Elizabeth Johnston are my great grand parents and George and Margaret McInrue are my grand parents. So the questions are: Where did Charles and Elizabeth marry? Did they have any other children ? Where did they live, die and where buried? If any of this brief history has any connection to anyone in Jefferson County I would be very much appreciate hearing from you. Jerry McInrue
