Mary Lou, I have Esther Allen, b. 1810 who married Barnard/Bernard VanAlstyne and lived in Napanee, Ontario. Bernard is buried in Depaullville. Esther I cannot find but she is alleged granddaughter of Ethan Allen. Her father was William Allen and she was born in VT according to records I have. Bernard/Barnard may have come back across the border a few times and his son settled Sackets Harbor, as did a brother and cousins. Esther descends from an Indian and Ethan Allen. Appears there were at least two, the other family going by the name of Redmond or Redman. They aren't recognized marriages of course. Ring any bells? This is what I have on McNeil.
