    3. Pam asked the list about some deeds she had regarding the Dolan estate in or near Sackets Harbor. I had a few thoughts to share with the list about it . . . . . It sounds to me as though the property is close to -- if not partially the same as -- the land on which Elisha Camp's mansion now stands. The deed indicates that the land was in Sackets Harbor, so that's a clue that it's in the village. I think the "Adams. Rd." is what is now South Broad St. which leads southeast out of the village towards Adams. Camp's property was one block west of this road. The deed also says this land was bounded by property granted by J.L. Odgen to D. Smith "the above land being part of the Ogden Estate at Sacketts Harbor and set off by the Chancellor to the said Camp." It is interesting to note that the street that forms the western boundary of Elisha Camp's old property today in Sackets was once called Ogden St. at least as recent as 1864, and the name was later changed to "General Smith Drive" which it remains today. So Pam's deeds tell us a little about where our street names come from, while also providing a record of the exchanges of arguably the best real estate in Sackets, second to the Sackett Mansion plot. Does this sound right to the rest of you? -- Mark Wentling
