    3. While in Sackets two weeks ago, I found a copy of Hamilton Child's "Directory of Jefferson County, 1866-1867." On page 52 is a breakdown of weather statistics for the years 1862-1865. I thought all the Civil War history buffs out there might be interested in seeing what kind of conditions our soldiers trained in, and likewise what conditions escaped slaves met as they traveled the Underground Railroad through this section of the North Country. The data was collected by "Dr. S. O. Gregory, of Theresa, Regular Meteorological Correspondent to the Smithsonian Institute, Washington." You can view an image of the page at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/jefferson/county.html Click the link under "County-wide features" at the bottom of the page. Enjoy! Mark A. Wentling P.S. -- The page also includes a list of County Officers for 1866-1867.
